1652 Massachusetts oak tree shilling I can't believe the rare coin I found metal detecting
I found a rare 1600s silver coin today with my Garrett ATGOLD metal detector. I went out to this old cellar hole here in New Hampshire , turned my machine on and within 20 seconds got a 77-79 signal on the screen. I started digging to see what was in he ground and saw silver ! nice ! at first I was not sure what I had until I saw the 1652 which instantly I knew was going to be a New England tree shilling. This has the XII for 12 pence and although dated 1652 it was produced sometime between 1660 – 1667. First came the willow tree, then the oak tree in which this is and then the pine tree. Amazing to find a rare coin that is 350 years old metal detecting. It is about as old as we are going to get here for coins produced in what is nw the US. Mind blown ! finding rare coins metal detecting.

You were meant to find that coin! The odds of finding that in all that bush is staggering. Congrats Charlie!!

NICE FIND !
I’m happy for ya, man~ can’t think of a more dedicated and deserving m.d.ist that deserves such a find!
Awesome
I enjoyed your explanation of the situation around when that Oak Tree shilling was dropped. I found a Santo Domingo (1516 – 1555) 4 maravedis in my backyard. My town wasn’t settled until the early 1700’s about 5 miles from where I live. The coin is in great shape and it lacks a counter stamp, Taken all together, I cant began to piece together how that coin landed where it did. I love this hobby.
i found a pine tree shilling. congrats on ur oak tree, i wear my 8 reale on my neck lol
Finally! Some shocking excitement!!! Much better than an old button or shoe buckle! Congrats!
Amazing! The hole means it was dropped much later though. Someone was wearing it as a pendant.

New England New York Vermont and New Hampshire all used to be Thai then it was a Dutch and British colony, expedition 1580s early 1600 s large excursion 1614 1604 family got The Dutch land grants 1614+1634 , coinage, with a hole in it was usually for a necklace or they carry it around their neck, instead of their pockets it was a hide, I could have been carried for decades, French Spanish and other currencies are also common will that time. Due to the trader migratory routes, Templars were in New England earlier, that’s what the pre-existing Stone tower was from in New England, after the church murdered them, they became the Freemasons in Columbus data from the archives and expose to European courts Isabella gave them the grant explore, that’s why he was so far south in new about New England they thought they were going around the world! Looking for a sea route to Asia, it’s also where the Mayans, and written material on the Templars vessels, Elmer legend that they were returning the church put a stop to that, flat Earth ; church doctrine, they don’t come back right away because they were murdered,

These are my "early in the spring" spots, before those fern and weeds start to grow, by summer, I’m hitting the beachs. . The ground is still frozen here in Canada, but I have atleast 4 spots like this to hit this year,,,,very soon now. Can’t wait, been a long winter watching your awesome videos.
Is that the oldest coin that you have found. Great find and lucky at that.
To whomever lost this off your neck 250 years ago, thanks.
I would be too afraid to wear it i might loose it i would put it on my nitestand and look at it every day !!!
Oh man, I can’t believe that I never saw this video. I’m absolutely floored! Every detectorists dream in New England.
Amazing find!
That’s a pretty clean coin for being buried in the earth for 4 centuries
Insane luck..but your area is loaded.
Don’t worry too much about it being holed. There is a tradition that many of these Massachusetts “tree” coins were worn as a protection from witchcraft.
just goes to show, you can spend all day digging trash then another you hardly have time to turn you machine on & you hit treasure. Great find Charlie & what an amazing piece of history, if only it could talk.
Outstanding find!
Great find. You can’t find them on the couch.
