4 More Hours Of History's Most Mysterious Treasures

0:00:00 The Honjo Masamune is perhaps the greatest Japanese sword ever made. Forged in the 13th century by the great swordsmith Masamune it became the ceremonial sword of the ruling Tokugawa shoguns for 250 years. After their fall from power in 1868 the great sword continued to be passed down the generations into the 20th century, but in the aftermath of the Second World War it disappeared.

0:48:43 Fifteen years ago Michael Hesemann, a German historian, set out to establish the authenticity of one of the most important Christian relics ever found. It’s called the Titulus Crucis, or Title of the Cross, a small piece of wood that, it’s claimed, hung on the cross of Christ announcing his name and crime. It’s displayed in a church in Rome. But is it real or a mediaeval fake?

1:36:40 In 1941 the Germans looted one of the Soviet Union’s most important art works, called the Amber Room. An extraordinary series of C18 amber screens worth millions of pounds and considered, by many, the 8th wonder of the world. It was taken to the Baltic city of Konigsberg. 4 years later at the end of the war, it had vanished. So began one of the greatest treasure hunts of the twentieth century.

2:25:28 A rich and exotic Queen of Sheba brought King Solomon gifts of gold from the mystical land of Ophir. But where was Ophir? Where had all that gold come from? For 1000 of years, ancient Greeks, Renaissance adventurers, Victorian explorers, and modern day scientists have searched for the source of Solomon’s gold. A mysterious place that would famously become known as King Solomon’s Mines.

3:13:01 Legend tells that somewhere in South America there is a great city of gold, El Dorado, a fabulously rich and sophisticated kingdom that was once home to thousands of people living deep in the Amazon jungle. To most people it was just a legend. But for British explorer, Colonel Percy Fawcett, it was real. Convinced he knew the location of this lost world, he spent years searching for it.

All other methods of dating put the shroud as originating between approx 50bc, to approx 50 ad, n all the particles PROVING the shroud was at some point, in the exact area of Jerusalem, including plant n dirt particles ONLY found in Jerusalem, that carbon dating result is proven to be horribly wrong… not to mention they tested an area KNOWN to have been repaired in the middle ages, n consists of linen widely used at that time, n the other linen is only known to have been used in the middle east, right around the time of the life of christ, n we know this thanks to another article of cloth made of the same linen n weave, n we know for a fact due to provinance n historical evidence etc, not to mention the few hundred OTHER points of fact that place it in 1st century Jerusalem, that the atheists want so badly to just ignore, n throw AWAY all those points of evidence just to claim the only ONE horrible point of evidence is the only point of evidence thats correct, which isnt at all how science is done, n proof that theyre going to serious extremes to prove their own bias… not to mention the fast food wrapper that c14 tests showed it to be thousands of years old lolol… idk why people keep accepting c14 results as gospel, still… pun intended

  7. @DJ.Michelle on February 18, 2025 at 1:22 am

Well, given that the titulus SHOULD have dated to the early 4th century, pretty sure that proves carbon dating is unreliable, at least past a certain age… smdh

  8. @riffinz on February 18, 2025 at 1:23 am

could probably end up in black market

  9. @DJ.Michelle on February 18, 2025 at 1:24 am

That is a flat out lie, the actual c14 results were wildly different for each lab!!!

As Baudolino explains in reference to the Three Magi:
A relic is valid if it finds its proper place in a true story.
    Umberto Eco

  13. @motherofcatsnz on February 18, 2025 at 1:31 am

Re The true cross. My caveat is that why would the Romans have used three languages for the plaque over the cross of a criminal, if they even put a plaque up at all.

  14. @S_S-WHYT on February 18, 2025 at 1:32 am

I don’t think we can understand Pearl Harbour if we didn’t live it. Believe it was like that generation’s 9/11 and the destroying of the Japanese swords likely had a hint of payback to it.

  15. @DJ.Michelle on February 18, 2025 at 1:34 am

Well, the apostles themselves traveled as far as Rome n further still, so, to think a relic couldn’t travel as far as they themselves did, is a bit ridiculous lol… not saying it did, but it very certainly, easily could have.

They really need to explain it’s a Reconstruction and not "actual" footage of the real battle between Japanese and Mongols in the 13th century?? Kind of sad really.

  30. @DerekPuckett-gj9rq on February 18, 2025 at 1:49 am

One of japans great treasure was stolen……the sword that declares the emperor……they NEVER show it because they really dont have it….. probably at the bottom of the Pacific ocean

  34. @bald_phoenix on February 18, 2025 at 1:51 am

Imagine poping into your attic and coming across that sword. Im betting on realising sword importance , japanese war drums would start to play! 😅

  35. @DJ.Michelle on February 18, 2025 at 1:53 am

Well, given the fact that weve found a steely proving king david existed, im gonna go out on a limb n say his son existed as well… they used to say pontius pilate n even jesus never existed, but weve since found quite a bit of proof that they both did, n even atheists now admit that yes, they were real historical people… how much more proof do people need to accept that the bible is a library of actual historical people, places n accounts?? Cuz a whole lot of it has already been proven true… we’ve even found ancient egyptian records proving the 10 plagues n the exodus did in fact happen… smh… the mental gymnastics people have to do to deny the historicity of the bible these days takes way more faith than believing the bible, does…

N btw, the three labs lied about the results, hiding the fact the the same sample each lab received a small piece of, gave dates ranging SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS APART, n they lied n hid the real results until forced to reveal the whole of their results until forced to do so by a FOIA request…. their credibility is non existent.

  39. @shaneedge3295 on February 18, 2025 at 1:55 am

    30,000 layers is only 15 folds .

  40. @Andrew-tf8jt on February 18, 2025 at 1:55 am

Thank God they pointed out on screen that the mongol invasion of Japan was a reconstruction I was so worried😒

  41. @DJ.Michelle on February 18, 2025 at 1:55 am

Naw, there are an abundance of scientists who dispute the c14 results n the tests themselves, due to how it was done, including ALL of the scientists of the sterp team that originally studied n ran a plethora of scientific tests on it! Literally every other test out of hundreds that were done, the c14 is the ONLY one that suggests it was from medieval europe… n each lab got a result that was 100-400+ years apart from each other, n they just literally took a time period from the middle of all those dates, which conveniently dated to exactly when the shroud first showed up in france… its absolutely absurd to claim the shroud a hoax, based solely on the obviously SEVERELY flawed n deceptively claimed "results"… no true scientist worth their salt would rely on those dates, when we KNOW FOR A FACT THEY FLAT OUT LIED ABOUT N HID the true results they got for decades.

I’ve been watching these compilations of the Myth Hunters series. Very enjoyable. That said, I love how the people only accept evidence that supports their theories and justifies any anomalies as "mistakes". You need to look at all evidence with a skeptical eye. Not just asking how it supports my pet theory, but also asking how it might not. Question everything.

  44. @bloomingpetals7230 on February 18, 2025 at 2:01 am

Mcarthur had no business collecting japanese swords. It is a cultural heritage which 100% he had no right to take away from the japanese

  45. @lynnkraus6715 on February 18, 2025 at 2:03 am

good stories. Too bad, the narrator and producers on the Honjo Masamune sword story didn’t bother to learn how to pronounce Masamune. It was annoying throughout the entire story.

  46. @DerekPuckett-gj9rq on February 18, 2025 at 2:06 am

PPL SEEM TO FORGET THAT DURING THE MIDDLE AGES PPL FAKED HOLY RELICS…….EVERY CHURCH HAD A HOLY RELIC………THERES ENOUGH PIECES OF WOOD FROM THE CROSS YOU COULD BUILD A MODERN HOUSE WITH THEM………SOOOOO MANY HOLY GRAILS ……ENOUGH FOR EVERY PERSON……AND ENOUGH BONES THAT WHEN PUT TOGETHER ITS LIKE 100 diffeent ppl

  47. @DJ.Michelle on February 18, 2025 at 2:07 am

Damn… the demoralization of taking their swords n the heartbreaking, heartbroken looks on their faces, is jusr so damn sad n seems excessively cruel. I mean, I know, pearl harbor, n all… but they were just symbols, not war weapons…

  48. @zolexDackery on February 18, 2025 at 2:07 am

They just kept their mouths shut wrote a little memoir. And handed over swords they knew the value of that Americans would understand only muuuch later, are worth millions.
You could just handed over your over engineered kitchen knife Hassagawa…
Impressive bombs they dropped but usually not as smart as Oppenheimer

  49. @DerekPuckett-gj9rq on February 18, 2025 at 2:07 am

Kinda funny how carbon 14 dating works on what they want it to work on

  50. @synisterfish on February 18, 2025 at 2:08 am

    @ 1:21:12 – this guy is clearly a bit of an idiot…
If people generally believe that a forger wouldn’t ‘make mistakes’ then, of course, a forger would deliberately ‘make mistakes’… because, to fools like this guy, ‘mistakes’ are what make it seem "genuine".
