NOPE, INACCURATE, it was open until 2017 when a flood happen killing 19 workers, closed for investigation but is planned to open 2024. Note, the was an open, strip mine, not underground, was started by the Russians not discovered.
The reality is they struck a deal with DeBeers.
Debeers probably paid them to stop. Otherwise people might find out what diamonds are really worth. They are not uncommon.

They probably dug deep enough in the open pit mine & decided to follow a vein, created a tunnel, or more than 1. So, since they would then be concealed from view while working, they could claim it is shut down, but keep working it, & only be seen entering or exiting at specific times of day (or night). So, it is still necessary to restrict air traffic over the minesite. Otherwise, there would be no restrictions.
Grrr it upsets me how much they conseal from us to keep our minds small and to fall in line like slaves to pay their debt with taxes on top of taxes for things even after owned. 😑
