Delaware Art Museum's Docents

Delaware Art Museum's Docents

Docents are volunteer tour guides and educators who are essential to fulfilling the Museum’s educational mission. They promote the enjoyment of art through leading interactive tours and offsite presentations for a range of visitors and by facilitating hands-on art lessons for schools. Docents are an active community of Museum Members who train together annually, learn about art from experts, and build gallery teaching skills through practice.

For more information about becoming a Docent, contact Saralyn Rosenfield at srosenfield@delart.org. No prior experience with art or art history is necessary.

Art is so subjective! How does one interpret precisely another’s work beyond the brushstrokes of how an artist creates? None but the artist knows what is and what is not, save the less… I have heard some of the most fascinating stories of interpretation of an artist’s works and could not but chuckle. You see, I knew the Artist to whom the analysis of interpretation was made reference to, which was delightful to hear, but far from what the artist, who shared with me was intended… Just like the dream of the work of an artist, unless one knows something of the artist, one cannot begin to know or understand the work of art. One does not interpret the dream, but rather the dreamer, which is the Artist, and there you have the vision of knowing the articulation of intention. A wonderful display of
    art, by the way!
