Three Springs Falls & Cascades and Trail, Big Flat – Waterfalls in Arkansas

Three Springs Falls and Cascades are a couple that are best seen after decent and recent rain, and clearly not what we’d had the pleasure of on this short hike. I’ll be disappointing you all today with this poor show of water!

Located on the southside of Push Mountain Rd, (HWY 314) close to Big Flat, these two falls are very easy to access. They are listed in Tim Ernst’s “Arkansas Waterfalls” guide. The last time I came here, the jeep road that leads off HWY 341, and then the ATV trail that you follow, were no where near as well trodden as it appears now. There are several other waterfalls close by, Heuston Falls, Dewey Canyon, Bumpers Falls, Amber Canyon Falls and Tassel Spring Falls to name a few.

Most vehicles would be able to park at the waypoint I indicated as a trail head below, and especially if the jeep road is fairly dry.

Super Leeds had also been here before, several years ago. At the time, he was a bit young and too energetic for me to consider a climb down to the bottom. We had plans for that today, but the easier access points to climb down looked way too icy for me. We did plod around the bluff for a little bit to see if we could find any viable options for a way down, but none looked any better than the best way closer to the falls. One day we’ll make it down there!

As for the hike, you can expect a slow and easy descent from that parking spot along the ATV trail, before making a right turn onto a short and well trodden volunteer path to the top of the falls and cascades. There are no major obstacles to overcome, and this hike could be accomplished by most folks.

All pictures and video clips are taken using my iPhone 8 and my right hand, and often my left hand holding the dog leash…apologies for picture wobbles!

Getting to the parking spot is pretty easy, google maps will take your right to it. Cell phone signal is poor at best in this area, so keep that in mind before you go, and download any digital maps you may need before you go.

If you visit these places, please recreate safely and responsibly. Leave no trace and #packmoreout

Cell Signal (AT&T): One bar at best.

Kid Friendly: Yes, but always be mindful of small children and be careful around the bluff edges!

**Leeds is always kept on leash until we find water he can play in. If he sees or senses deer he’ll chase. Water trumps everything for him though. This respects the “Leave no Trace” principles, please do likewise. We adventure often, and he is very well trained now (and patient with me) with regard to climbs and scrambles. Know the limits of your dog, and your ability to handle it if you elect to take it.

In these videos, you will sometimes see a small tribute to my son, Josh Rogers, who unexpectedly passed in June 2018. Rest in much Love Joshman.
