Calif. couple finds $10 million gold coin jackpot in backyard

A California family stumbled across a hoard of 1,400 mint-condition gold coins from the 19th century that had been buried in their backyard. Some of the coins are so rare, they could be worth $1 million apiece. Scott Pelley reports.

Can anyone provide a theory of what happened to the original owner of these gold coins? Why was these coins not part of this stacker will/trust and passed to future generations?

Yesm… it was owned by the former land owners who decided to bury their gold when the gov decided it illegal to own gold as a citizen…instead of selling it to the gov for Pennies, only to value it higher later… crooks! Lucky folks though. I would have kept some.

Alot of gold like this is still out there buried during the civil war confederates would come by peoples homes and lay claim to their property and everything in it they would take their money food cloths anything they wanted by law so alot of people would bury their gold to keep it out of their hands alot of the times the owners would resist and get killed so there was no way of knowing the gold was hidden you just have to be in the right spot at the right time amd your rich
