Hey, everyone, it’s Dave from the Great US Treasure Hunt, and shout-out to Jared Lyon, who was able to solve one of the Dummy Puzzles from a freeze frame on the Cowlazars livestream (link in the description below—see if you can find the same frame Jared found).

Jared reached out to us to let us know he’d solved the puzzle, which was one that we put into the Dummy Book because we knew it didn’t have an actual location in it.

Now the problem is, this *is* an actual location, but it’s not the puzzle going out on October 22 with the real books. This puzzle was taken from the TV pitch version of the book, also mentioned in that livestream.

It’s a location that was scouted more than two years ago, and without further ado, here’s the puzzle and the solution, as delivered by Jared Lyon.

On the right side of the page is this Allen Carter illustration. You can see that Julius Caesar is in a bit of trouble here. He seems to be surrounded by marble tiles. Hm. Kind of suspicious that all those tiles are blank. Seems like a good place to put some letters or numbers in there. I guess we’ll find out in October if this illustration is unchanged or not. Anyway, you couldn’t get anything from this page.

It’s this page where the solution was, and yes, it involved a Caesar Cipher, in a little story where Caesar was talking solving puzzles with a messenger.

Jared correctly used the first letter of each sentence. If you want to solve the puzzle yourself, pause the video. We’ll give you a couple of seconds to pause.

Okay, Jared then simply shifted those letters over 13 spaces in the alphabet to come up with the answer Pope Pk, Hartford CT, Under Scale.

Jared revealed that he couldn’t actually read the first two letters, so his solution was – – pe Pk, Hartford CT, Under Scale, but Pope is the only four letter park that fits.

Congratulations on that solve, Jared! We’re sending him a little something.

Now…do you know someone near Pope Park in Hartford? If so, there’s a chance that a small coin is exactly in that spot, and it’s been there for over two years. If you or a pal retrieves that coin, let us know, and we’ll replace it with a Great US Treasure Hunt souvenir coin.

If you’re not already within fifteen minutes of this location, please don’t trouble yourself…it’s just a souvenir coin.

Thanks for watching, the Hunt starts on October 22 when the actual book is mailed.

11 states, 11 coins, 11 clues, $11,000…but not Pope Park in Hartford, Connecticut.

Good luck and have fun!

How many coins did you previously hide for the tv pitch?

Interesting that there are no geocaches listed in Pope Park. Would certainly help reduce the amount of suspicious foot traffic searching in unusual locations.
