About 28 years ago a mechanic my parents went to regularly, showed us a chunk of solid, pure gold. It was just a small part of a large stash he had tracked down over the years. It was tucked away in a small cave, high in the Uintas. He wouldn’t give much info on location other than that. (Understandable.) The tiny piece of gold he sent to multiple jewelers was found to be incredibly pure and each one of those jewelers was very interested in the gold and wanted to know where it came from. He kept it quiet and I dont know if he every ended up finding a way to sel it or what, since he was worried about government or state claiming it was somehow the property of the state or the government.
The treasure hunter who had been hunting since 1977 gave a description of the silvers bars being 70lbs and near a smelting area. I’m pretty sure the bars of gold this guy had were very similar, weighing about 70-90lbs each. I remember him saying the weight of the full bars he had found, (but cant remember the exact number.) and being in awe (I was like 8 or 9, so hard to recall all details.) But as soon as the 1977 treasure winter’s account was read out, it sounded a lot like what this guy had described in the cache he found. And I believe the mechanic had said he was going to next search for the location of where the gold had been smelted, since there was evidence and reason to believe that it had been done near by. So as far as I know, he had found a small cave with the gold bars, but no smelting area. He did say that multiple people have disappeared in that area over the decades and that it was rumored that there were still some Ute tribe members who were there to protect the gold, for whatever reason. Could it be the gold cache that had not been located by the guy who found the gold? Possibly. The weight of the bars and how they were stashed sounds very similar to the way the mechanic described the bars and cache he had discovered.
Anyway, that’s what I remember from when he showed us the chunk of a bar. My parents got into a nasty divorce shortly after and I have no idea what happened after that.
Crazy to find out that there are so many other people out there, searching for treasure in the Uintas, with a similar treasure background.
I am sharing these memories, since I have always been curious to find out what become of the treasure he found, if he ever collected it and hauled it our of there, and mostly, I am DYING to know if you find the stash you are looking for, and if so, I’m kinda wondering if that cache might not be empty now. If so… it was the mechanic from Ogden, Utah.
I know it’s hard to believe every comment people post. And my memory was from long ago, making it a bit blotchy. But the gold chunk I held, I remember very clearly. It was a lot colder than I had anticipated, and incredibly heavy. It was magnificent.

I’m considering taking my early retirement and moving to Utah ( I’m in Virginia, I’ve been to Utah before , I’m LDS so the culture switch would not be noticeable much ). I just want a few acres w/ no zoning restrictions and then I can search.
Your store looks good. One thing that I’d think would awesome or a good suggestion is to use yours or dans photo of Indian petroglyphs and instead of just putting it on a t shirt put it on a truck or car seat cover as a print on demand product. That’d be pretty cool. A guy I watched joe Robert on YouTube titled why I left printful talks about other things like car seat covers. Having that printed on a large blanket would be cool, too, to match a larger Indian writing panel. There’s some cool print on demand products out there.

Anyway, I live in far northern California. In what is known as the Northern mines during the rush.
Watching many videos about the Spanish mining era in the US, it made me curious if the Spanish mined gold in California before the gold rush, and had cache sites. I have seen stories about Spanish ships being loaded with gold off the California coast. I believe francis drake raided some. Another time i read about the Spanish stopping at Trinidad CA. Harbor and placing a very large solid gold cross on the hill above trinidad bay ( Trinidad head now) . To claim the harbor for the king/ queene of spain. Later was noticed by other spanish ships that it was removed. Locals believe the indians of those times removed it and threw it in the ocean below.
Back on question, have you heard of any documentation of spanish cache sites in California? It seems possible as if i am correct, California was 2nd in total gold production in history. With the bays along the coast and navagatible rivers to go up. ( Sacramento, san Joaquin, American rivers) it would seem common sense that they would have mined the crap out of California lode gold deposits.

Ps I forgot to ask, but have you tried lidar data for your area to try to find treasure. I think lidar is probably the best tool to help find manmade surface disturbances and mine shafts; old roads, etc.
I have a prospecting buddy that does custom lidar maps that overlay google earth. He is alot cheaper then gis companies charge. I believe you get basically a 4 mile by 3 mile area for $60. You just have to give a center point of your interest area.
Or you might google free lidar data for your area. Sometimes you can see it for free. Not likely but worth a check.
