I grew up in NC and learned from a young age about how the Outer Banks move and a house on the end of an island could be there one year and be swept away the next. Crazy how nature doesn’t care about what we do sometimes.

I’ve never been to the outer banks. the closes I’ve ever been that way is south Carolina bringing my oldest brother home. he was a welder on paradise island base. it’s been nearly 2 years now since I’ve lost my brother due to illness. Not covid -19. But I’ve watched wicked tuna tv series show. That’s why I wanted to visit the outer banks. 😎
Been going there since the 80’s . Its the best surf fishing hands down. You will need a 4×4 or ATV and remember the old timers use to tell me be careful every other sand dune is a truck . Glad you pointed out the sand reality.

It’s weird that I got this as I’m in the Outer Banks for the first time
I was supposed to go in April 2020 but couldn’t because everything was shut down due to the pandemic. I was scheduled to fly in from Lexington Kentucky to Norfolk. I am hoping to get down there in mid to late October when it’s cheaper. The Outer Banks is my Bucket List Dream Trip…horseback riding on a beach. Being terminally ill I’m afraid I won’t be able to go. I can’t drive myself down there..I will be heavily sedated for the flight so renting a car is out of the question and I tire quickly so even if I tried to drive the day after I get to Norfolk, I doubt I can do that drive now. As many searches as I have done on OBX, I am still trying to find the best places for seashells!! I went to Florida a couple of years ago and the hotel was an oceanside hotel. I could walk our and down the steps and my feet would land in sand. Oceans and beached reduce the severity of my symptoms and it’s the only place where I feel peace. Hopefully I can figure it out but it’s not looking good right now…everything is so expensive.

I remember a NatGeo 1969 issue on the OBX. The map inside showed name/date of loss through history. 1942 sinkings were were predominant. I have tried to buy reps of that map, to laminate and use as placemats. No luck so far. I’ve looked for intact back issues.

I went down in the graveyard took the Coast guard 24 hours to get me in 4 other people didn’t make it that night
I grew up just over the sound bridge in Currituck. Now live about an hour away. Driving the beach since the early 1970’s. About 30 years ago in Corolla, we ran across a huge bed of oyster shells right on the beach. They are not from the ocean they are from the sound. About 500+ yards west of where we were on the beach. Down the beach a ways was also a lot of dead tree stumps on the beach. Not just washed up. Still standing up, planted where they once grew. This was once a wooded area. Along with the oyster shells that were beds in the sound. From the wave action, the beaches have moved / encroached westward. Rolling over onto what was once a wooded area and the edge of the sound. Exposing all this to us.
I live about an hour away from the obx. We’ve been going quite a few times a year for as long as I can remember. I’ve cleaned and inspected cottages, stayed in condos and cottages and hotels all up and down the beach. My favorite part is the piers and the museum and the outlet mall. I love it!

I caught my first big Drum on that pier.
I became a die hard Avon pier fisherman in the late 90s. Couldn’t wait til Friday came. I’d drive 4 hours from Richmond and spend the whole weekend out on the end of the pier fishing live baits for King Mac, Cobia or whatever else might pass by. July 2002 I was blessed with the pier catch of a lifetime when a five foot Tarpon inhaled my bait right before my eyes.
Not huge for a Tarpon but a rather acrobatic legless bastard it was. Jump after violent head shaking jump, somersaults and back flips but amazingly my hooks held. Man I love that pier. My son caught his first Cobia there as well at 12 years old.
A 63.5 pounder , not too shabby. He also caught a nice King Mac the next summer 25lbs. We had many good times there. Back then they’d let us sleep out on the end after closing.

My dad started taken us to the Outer Banks in 1968 we would visite 3 times a year to fish . I miss that there was nothing there until late 70’s it started to grow up. Still visit to fish

just visited kill devil hills obx for the first time in july and fell in love with it on another note lost my iphone 11 making a video of the ocean it recorded for 46hours and 55 minutes under water until the battery died a gentleman found it and called my wife about two days later i activated the lost iphone feature on my phone and when he phoned it and plugged it in it was still working and my wifes phone came up does how he was able to get ahold of us phone still works after all that time under water just amazing

I recently visited the outer banks with my daughter and granddaughter! We had a great time! The only problem was getting in line for dinner! My Ex- husband and I used to visit the outer banks when we dated. It was fascinating!

At my vacation house there was actually a poster of all the shipwrecks in the area both ocean side and sound side. I was in salvo/waves and really enjoyed it. The waves at the beach when I went were much larger and stronger than I remember when I was in Florida beaches.
Awesome video man! So where would you recommend one bring a magnetic fishing rod if one is hellbent on rediscovering some of the late sovereigns’ precious jewels 💎 lost in aforementioned shipwrecks?? Asking for a friend …. 😉 Also I’ve heard people say a lot of the shipwreck loot has made it’s way over the barrier islands and through the connecting sounds/rivers/estuaries and are now turning up in random lesser rivers, creeks and other water sources inland …. Could you speak on why this happens and how a wannabe treasure-owner might use that strategically in the hunt? P.S. so frickin glad I just moved to the INNER BANKS – a hop, skip and and a jump away from the Outer Banks —> this place is the coolest!!
Something has changed in the last 20 years and that is the natural beach replenishment of the out banks has drasticly gone down. This may be due to the ocean levels rising around the world.. and this will only get worse in the next decades to the point that the beaches on the OBX lose 20 feet of beach per year! At some point not even million dollars worth of man made beach replenishment will be enough to keep the OBX to exist beyond 2050.
With this perspective of how the sand is pushed and brought in by the waves, I now no longer believe the predictions of rising tidal waters eventually fully flooding the capes
I lived near the outer banks (southern part) most of my adult life. It’s a little slice of heaven. I love your video but I hope it stays a secret. Love to surf, scuba dive and conch shell hunt after big storms.

My husband’s family is from all the surrounding area. Alot of the Ferebee family were Coast guards going way way back.
