Vesuvius Gold Mine – lost gold mines in Oregon
Vesuvius Gold Mine in the Bohemia Mining District of Oregon last produced gold in 1921. For nearly 100 years, it’s been dormant, quietly returning to forestland. We visited recently, and were amazed by the intact entrance (it’s blasted shut about 20 feet inside) and the astonishingly orange creek seeping out of it. For more details and how to visit, see our post at https://www.oregonoutdoorfamily.com/vesuvius-gold-mine/
(I was holding our baby as I made this video. She was 6 months old and completely adorable, and made adorable little noises.)
There are two of three adits to the Vesuvius that are still open this is not one of them.
