And here I thought that gold panning was a recreational activity. I can see why not allowing gold claims. But the government shouldn’t stop panning. To me the government takes things too far. And the gold doesn’t do anyone any good unless it found. And I doubt anyone would get rich.
Great information, i’ve found some of the pale colored gold on NE Peavine.
I had a metal detector enthusiast and I told that I look for gold specimen’s on ebay. This day was however a little different.
This guy was selling a lot, not big not small that had chevron gold nuggets (real keepers.) And ask my buddy if he would like to spilt the sale. No answer so I turned to him where his lower jaw was hanging wide open. When he regained composure he stated he had never seen a piece a gold like this. By the way, these lots are across the way of the famous Gold Mine in Northern Nevada.
Just wondering if you happen to know what the deposit is outside of Las Vegas heading south on the I-15. I always thought it was a pit that someone burned trash in but I finally went up to it and it is a strange deposit of what appears to look like apshalt to me. Small black sands in sandy layers. Really weird..

Thanks for sharing this wealth of information on Nevada placers. Fairly lean pickens down here in So NV, as the map indicates. Most of us head to AZ, where there’s plenty to prospect. One of these days I would love to explore Northern NV. Best of luck to you Chris !

are you saying we produce 156 tons of gold a year on average in Nevada? as remarkable that sounds it’s a real eye-opener when you do the consensus report on gold reserves by country. USA being the leader and top most holder of gold at 8,300 + tons give or take.
Which in today’s market roughly equates to less than a half of billion dollars.🤔🤨😬🙄😞
Losing my job December 6th due to it leaving to start production in Mexico. I’m being given a generous severance check and will be taking some time off of work to enjoy life for a bit. I plan on getting out west for a couple weeks with my metal detector to play around and see of I can’t find some nuggets. Glad I found your channel as Nevada was on the top of my list to spend some time detecting!

I’ve got a rock crusher and fired it up once. It makes a lot of dust. On that note, I know to wear a mask. What are some of the dangers one might be exposed to when crushing? I know asbestos is out there. Is arsenic a widespread issue?

Hi you said you answer our comments and questions. So I literally just spent $160 on prospecting equipment. 2 large metal detectors, 1 hand held spotter, a shovel and hand held pick are. So I never done this before, but am very serious about doing prospecting. I heard that there are a lot of abandoned gold mines in Pahrump. For someone like me, a total rookie, where would be a good place for me to start mining for nuggets?
Currently living in Ontario, Canada but I’m making a trip up to Vegas this November. Hopefully I can find a few speck’s of US Gold to take home with me and I’m sure this video will help !
If your looking for topics I would be curious about geologically anomalous deposits. Just weird, rare or unexpected deposits of any metal or specific mineral/gem. Washington and Oregon video would be cool too.

Chris I like your videos Could you give a lecture on great basin paleo gold Nobody seems to know anything about it nor does anyone talk about it I think it’s the last big deposits of placier gold left unmined Nevada This is the type of deposit that I’m currently mining. It’s taken me over 20 years to figure it out.

Hello I am born and raised here in Las Vegas Nevada and I’ve been into finding rocks and minerals lately since bought my metal detector. Honestly I know nothing of, but I’ve been just watching your channel and it’s helping a lot but I want to say, I came across a lot of interesting stones in my yard, that has a lot of sea shells and rocks that a prior owner had put across. Its all sand, and goes on it and I did find two rocks full of silver next to green rocks. How can i get it checked
I lived in Vegas, Reno and Elko work at the mines . Never once did I go metal detecting for gold. 😓 no gold in Missouri, lots of corn.

Chris, I recently learned from a lecture from CWU, (Nick Z) that there is evidence of northern Nevada being over the hot spot that Yellowstone sits on now. It would explain the refractory in the high sulfidation zone and the big Gold being on the low sulfidation zone on the other side of the fault.
Will Yellowstone produce this kind of Gold deposition one day ?

I was raised in Overton, Nevada (Clark County) and back in the early 70s around The Valley of Fire on the desert , we used to find like lots of wierd looking rocks , specially along the MUDDY RIVER (which ran alongside my dad’s farm and Wayne Newton’s Arabian horse farm which I used to work as a kid)and Rogers Springs (an old fish hatchery natural pond now full of tropical fish) , we farmed back in the day up there so we were constantly out on the desert along man made water reservoirs and used to find lots of wierd looking rocks, but back then we were kids and had no idea if any of them rocks had gold in them .. .

I have learned a lot on your videos but I want to know why the Placer district in Lamoille canyon Nevada isn’t listed. I’m a host for camp and picnic grounds and have found nuggets and lots of gold while panning.

Is there any use for rocks found with copper (not sure if I could grind this up) use in pottery glazes etc.? Where would you start learning about what is in this or that rock? We found an awfully heavy small rock with Iron, black rock, riddled with quartz, small crystals and possible pyrite etc. I know they are thinking about using pyrite in solar panel use. Also had no idea that it has or is arsenic?
How do we identify what is really in this rock and handling it properly?
Any information would be great. It’s hard to find info on unpolished rocks out there.
