You might think elevating a New Jersey landmark to national park status would be an easy cause for residents to rally around. But the proposal to redesignate the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is stuck in a tug of war. Between environmentalists who want the protections given with that status. And neighbors who fear a government land grab.

I would prefer if that land gets designated back to the recognized Lenape nations of Delaware and Pennsylvania now removed to other areas. It would be great to be included back into the conversation of the land we once called home and be able to show we’re still here
“People don’t want to share” the NERVE!!! My family had farms and homes seized and bulldozed in this EXACT area, don’t tell me it’s because I don’t share. We have already lost so much! We can’t afford to lose hunting, we can’t afford all of the traffic this will bring to the area, the stresses on our 100% volunteer EMTs & fire depts. You want to preserve it, then leave it alone!!!
Dont do it. It will destroy your community. Their trying to exploit nature and the land for profit. Yes, they will say the farmers and loggers dont share. It’s their projections of their corporate welfare.
So sick of the "not in my backyard mentality". Nothing ever gets done when locals oppose any change

it’s funny seeing people channel their isolationist attitudes by pretending to care about an indigenous species of turtle being harmed by a national park. i’m sorry, but who brought the wolves back to yellowstone? which service has protected the american bison population? if you want to preserve or conserve the natural beauty of an area, using the NPS is the best option

Almost all national parks are in the west. The east has wilderness worth showing off too. I’m strongly in favor of making it a national park. If you’re worried about having too many people around then stop turning what’s left of New Jersey’s farmland into suburbs.
