Is Hawaii more expensive than Alaska?

Is Hawaii more expensive than Alaska?

We recently made a video about the RIDICULOUSLY expensive cost-of-living in Nome, Alaska – where we spend about half of each year mining for gold: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y5ynprj0ps

In that video we mentioned the reason for the priciness is because all goods have to be flown or barged into town – and that the only other state with that same situation is HAWAII!

Since we happened to be in Maui we thought we wanted to show you whether Maui, HI or Nome, AK has a higher cost-of-living by doing a direct comparison of goods in sunny Hawaii vs. the frigid tundra of Western Alaska….

So cool that I came across your channel. Here from South Africa, did a few calcs on your shopping items there and with the exchange rate we are pretty much even. Guess it’s just expensive to live regardless of where we are in the world. By the way I have a avo tree in my yard…..

the real-estate prices reflect the the fact that people want to live in Maui, whereas well, Nome, you couldn’t give some people enough land to incentivize them to move there.

Have you worked out where the smart money is then? Also bear in mind, Hawaii has no heating bills and stable daylight. I cannot imagine why anyone would want to live on Alaska.

You should go to the farmers markets. Much cheaper and most is locally grown. Safeway is a business from the mainland so you will see more inflation prices at Safeway.

Guys, come live to Portugal, so much cheaper, safe, good weather and you can find lots of gold left by the end of the Roman Empire minning 300Ac and post WW volframe mining that we’ve selled both parties to feed the war on strong steel manufacturing in return of immunity…, above central east of ancient Tagus River pliocenic hydraulic basin… 😅 stay safe!

Hey guys, great video! I live on the island of Kauai and I think we may have the most expensive grocery store in the USA, although I could be wrong – those Nome prices are pretty ridiculous! I was wondering how Maui prices would compare to Anchorage prices? I feel like Anchorage could be cheaper, not counting Costco of course…

Imagine wearing a mask ! then going around touching everything in the store.. you want to talk about eco-friendly and the way you are acting. Google and see how long it takes one of them masks biodegrade on this Earth it takes around 450 years ! so y’all need to pull the reins back and get in touch with reality. from the way I’m seeing how y’all are acting with plastics and stuff.. obviously you are ignorant to a lot of things..js

Maybe I’m wrong, I’d have thought Hawaii would be more expensive because it seems more desirable.

Hi EMILY, a "out of the box" approach to Winter Gold Diving.

Take the summer barges with excavators as example and design lightweight, cheap version of a barge that has pylons sinking to ocean floor and lifting barge above the ice.

That will eliminate danger of thin and melting ice.

    God bless Eroica 😊

This is such a no-brainer. I’m in San Jose California, incidentally the most popular city on the US mainland for people from Hawaii to move to, and I grew up in Hawaii and lived there until my mid-20s. Hawaii’s far, far cheaper.

You’re mainland people so I’m going to assume you’ll want to eat only mainland type foods shipped/flown in from the mainland. That’s how mainland people do Hawaii. But, Hawaii has no winter! So, no winter wardrobe, no winter heating bills, no need for snow tires, no need for a block heater for your car, in fact an awful lot of people in Hawaii get by with no car at all but that’s too scary for mainland people to even think about, so let’s just leave it at, not only is gas a bit cheaper than here in California, but you drive a lot less miles in Hawaii – almost every trip is a short hop.

But let’s say you have kids in Hawaii who go to public school there, get into a really "local" thing like surfing or canoe paddling so they grow up essentially local. Now you’re going to a whole new level of cheapness. Hawaii may not have invented flea markets and thrift stores, but they just about perfected them. And the actual local cuisine is super cheap (and tasty!) compared to eating only mainland foods brought in from the mainland. Plus they might be more amenable to living in a local-type place which will be an older building with no A/C because traditionally there was no air conditioning in Hawaii. You got by with opening the windows, "transoms" over doorways, and, well, thinking cool thoughts…

Hawaii’s cheaper than where I live now by a good amount, probably at least 1/3 less expensive to live, and the only thing that makes "Silicon Valley" expensive to live is the rents which are 2X what they are in Hawaii, and to some extent food which is about 30% more.
