Poro Rico is a U.S. Territory but still is more like a third world country. A lot of crime there so better stay in the tourists area.

I always see everyone talking about renting cars there for visits. Why is there no Scooter rentals? Most islands I’ve visited they use Scooter Honda 125 or the like. Think If I went to Porto Rico I would just buy one it would come out cheaper then renting a car.
I remember when we rented a car during our visit in Puerto Rico, They told us not to use our turn signals as drivers in Puerto Rico never use them and that if we use our turn signals, we can get marked as a tourist and get followed as they can do worst to us

I always park in a private parking lot because of those local beach bums. You pay them something and when you come back they are gone and your car is still broken into. So either park at a private lot or Tell them You will take care of them when you get back and they are usually there waiting when you get back. I carry cold water, snacks, etc. and I hook them up as well.
Most are drunks or drug users, but most are kool and down to earth. Im Puerto Rican also from NYC so I know how to deal with them since we have them here in NYC as well.

I’m planning to go to Puerto Rico next year with some of my friends, they are Puerto Rican but we are all teenagers, we planned to stay with my friends family down there but they say a couple things to prepare before we go there. Like they said on the roads they have to speed to ensure they don’t get stopped by anyone on the side of the road and also not to take pictures near residential areas because it could be considered being a traitor but idk how that correlates. Also my friend said it’s really dangerous and there are a lot of wild dogs and horses and animals lol idk I’m still going but I was wondering if anyone had any tips because although we are stating with my friends family we aren’t going to be with them the whole time and we are all teenagers and my friends aren’t very aware of their surrounding and they draw attention to themselves which probably isn’t the best choice to go to a different country with lol but it’s not that I don’t want to go with them idk

I’m from Puerto Rico and what this guide is saying is true. Just be cognizance that Puerto Ricans wants you to enjoy, relax and have fun, we don’t rush so understand that you are on an island on PR time and yes every restaurants wants you to relax and enjoy the food we will not rush you so enjoy a couple of drinks before your food comes out it may take a little while thats why we want you to relax and enjoy your time in the restaurants. Furthermore, San Juan or the metropolitan area is not what Puerto Rico is all about. If you want to learn and see what Puerto Rico is all about you need to travel and go to the west side of the island try to spend a day or two on the westside and a day if two on the southside and mountain regions only then you will really understand what PR is about and the people. We have so much to offer you just need to want to meet our people and see what each town has to offer. Puerto Ricans love to party, if you see us partying or in a group setting come by and introduce yourself and we will gladly invite you to stay with us and have a great time this is what we are all about. Another thing, yes you’ll hear people say PR has a lot of crime and its true but most of the crimes are drug related incidents. Drug dealers will not mess with tourist the last thing a drug dealer wants is being a target for going after tourist. Just use common sense no different when we travel to the US. Actually and lately the US has more violent crimes then PR!!! So enjoy our island so you can come back for more…….
