Centuries-old shipwrecks, gold coin treasure discovered off Colombia coast
Centuries-old shipwrecks complete with gold coin treasure have been discovered off the coast of Colombia.
According to officials, Colombian naval officials conducting underwater monitoring of the long-sunken San Jose galleon discovered two other historical shipwrecks nearby.
One is believed to be a Spanish colonial-era boat and the other thought to be from the time of Colombia’s war of independence from Spain some 200 years ago.
The San Jose galleon sunk in 1708 near Colombia’s Caribbean port of Cartagena. Some historians believe its cargo of treasure could be worth billions by today.
Authorities are working to raise the shipwrecks and its contents from the seabed for display in museums.

My problem is, where did the treasure come from. Was it part of what was stolen from the Aztec people? If so what right do they have to claim it belongs to them. I say it should be split with the country it came from and those that discovered it.
When the San Jose was discovered in 2015 she was worth an estimated $17 Billion Dollars and in today’s Dollars she is estimated at $20 to $22 Billion dollars. It was discovered in the 1981 by a group called Sea Sheach Armada but a deal was never reached for them to recover the treasure.

Imagine if that were in an area shallow enough for divers. It’d be chaos. Not only is there sooooo much treasure, but it’s barely even covered and in near perfect condition. Beyond the treasure, I want to see those pristine cannons.

This is interesting, most of the treasure is under the oceans
Still there are lot and lots of treasures undiscovered under the sea. Expert estimate about 3 million ships had sunken till date since ancient time.
Spanish government is gonna roll in claim it government property its happened before. But the gold is from South America origin so the Spanish stole it .
