I think it was the late, less than great Hughie Green who said, "If you can fake sincerity you’ve got it made." To my English ears there are very few American public voices – those in the media and so on – that sound anything like sincere. It’s all show business – everything done for effect. I suppose it’s the same in the UK – though perhaps not quite as manic.
