Diving for Steamy Treasure | History of the Steam Ship Oregon – Steam Culture

Lets go under the sea to look at this steam engineering marvel known as the SS Oregon.

Today on Steam Culture, Brent talks about the SS Oregon and it’s 12,500 horsepower compound steam engine powered by 9 Fox double-ended boilers. Steam Ships were becoming very popular in the late 1800s due to both their speed and the amount of cargo and people they could transport. Unfortunately, another ship ran into it on it’s way to it’s destination. Now it is a perfect dive spot for divers to explore steam history.
