Montana's Gold Rush Adventure, Exploring Abandoned Mines
Montana's Gold Rush Adventure, Exploring Abandoned Mines
This is a the last video from my trip to Montana. It was a great trip that was topped off with this ride exploring Montana’s forgotten Gold Rush. I’m not really good with what all these building where used for but I enjoyed going to check them out. If you know anything about these please leave it in the comments! Thanks for watching. Also there’s a sneak peak of some new video equipment!
Original music by Zack Park
For those interested, they were in an area south of the town of Chico.
That is an absolutely beautiful area Matt, were you able to swing a detector while there?
Beautiful country up there. Thanks for taking us along Matt.
Really liked this episode, would.like to see some fossil hunting in the mountains , the Andy lane trail (part of the triple crown) has some cool rock layers to explore , thanks for sharing the mountain views , love it
Active claims that’s encouraging
Be mindful that the area, and areas like it, are awash in residual mercury, especially around the mine workings.
I’ve been up there and done some prospectin. Couldn’t get as far as yall did cause of snow, and it was just me, the dog, and yota truck. Beautiful area!!! Check out the tobacco roots around pony, and potosi West of Bozeman. There’s mines all over. Yall be safe out there.

no animals will be effected by working these mines . all studies show human involvement is benign we care about the wildlife and environment as well as anyone. IT IS OUR WAY OF LIFE.!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m from Madison County, Virginia City, Alder, Ruby Town… population of approx 5 ppl?
HUGE ( necessary but sorta unfortunate) Tourist area, but I grew up on all the old Dredge piles. There are SO many incredible old homesteads & being a 5th generation Montanan I can tell you I do feel SO wildly blessed to live here still but be raised in a place that’s been movie sets SO many times. I always have said that -obviously the Ol’ Claim Jumpers & dredgers couldn’t have gotten ALL those Nuggets! We also have – where i was raised- a lot of Sapphires & “The Ruby Valley” I was always told (anyways) that the name was…reeeeeaaallly ….not so much for Ruby’s as for SOOOOOO many amazing yet not as valuable…but Incredible Garnets! Growing up…( I kid you not, when I was bored I’d go sit on side of anyone of our bazillions of Dirt Roads & just collect the most incredible Garnets & a few sapphires… just even in our driveway! You went to a beautiful area for sure! Thanks for showing respect for our state that’s unfortunately ☹️ being bought up by Millionaires & then immediately doing things such as clear cutting & of course restricting access to ANY locals that even need’s to cross these Tremendously Wealthy Vacationing peoples property to access hunting grounds or go wherever they’re headed. I guess now even our Lake was Sold to Private owners & my dad told me there’s really nowhere to dock your boat & even in the summer you’re always taking a risk w/ even taking a dip because although these super wealthy land developers usually aren’t there… they hire people to hunt ppl down & or have SO much surveillance, it’s just a damn shame that Money always talks & I honestly did not even realize a public lake could be sold off like that ? To the likes of celebs like David Letterman… Ted Turner & Jane Fonda (when they were still together) but one of the worse outside of Ennis …. in the 90’s Steven Siegel bought a Ginormous Ranching area…. shut our town down when I was in high school to shoot one of the crappiest movies ever! I had a friend who owns a private Security Alarm Business & he told me one day… as he was LOL, that good OLD Steven Siegel had 8-10 Foot Full body portraits of himself on every wall, but he supposedly & kindly had two framed pics of his children also , they were the wallet sized. 🙄😂🤢🤯🤪🤩
Ive heard Colorado is a great place to explore! 😉
Nice video my friend, with stunning Views. Enjoyed my visit. H.H.
I was in school when you posted this haha 😂
Where in montana is this
What road can I turn off to get to this in paradise valley?
I recognized that area right away, rode it many times.
We’re at in Montana are you
You should search the name of the mine and look for old photos and try to figure out what buildings were what from that. Skylights is funny af
Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi GD, Just love the tour through that lovely country, keep them coming mate. Dennis
Remember that the "big" miners of the last century opened up the beautiful country that you get to see today, not placer mining. The mines and the wildlife can and do co-exist. The concrete foundations were not sluices. They are more than likely foundation for a stamp or ball mill.
It’s beautiful there. I’ve always wanted to go to Montana. Thank You for taking us along, Matt.
Another great vid. That sure is some pretty country
Beautiful area but there are more just like it all over the state. We could use the high paying jobs that a big mine would bring to the area. Shame we cannot have both the mines and the scenery.
Where in paradise valley is this ?
Beautiful area. Probably gets too cold for me…lol
