25 Most Unbelievable NEWPORT MANSIONS

Newport! A place known as the sailing capital of the world, a destination for lavish iconic estates, and one that has always played host to some pretty big money!

Today, we are taking you to Newport, RI. A city which may well belong to the tiniest state in the country, but don’t ever let that fool you!

Located on the southern tip of Rhode Island’s Aquidneck Island, this seaside escape played a major role in past ages as the place where American aristocracy would spend their summers.

Recognized as America’s first resort, it was a massive haven for all types of mansions and “summer cottages” from the Victorian era, to the Gilded Age, well into the roaring twenties.

Today, you will find much of Newport’s historic mansions still standing. And if you’ve got a few minutes to spare, you can come along with us on our tour of the most memorable, most outstanding mansions in this most opulent city.

Our tour will take you down its iconic Cliff Walk, then up its posh Bellevue Ave, and to a few random spots we bet you didn’t even know about.

So without further ado, here are the 25 most unbelievable Newport mansions!

Marble House has 500,000 cubic feet of marble, not 500.

  3. @cliff4695 on December 8, 2023 at 8:26 am

Something tells me there was a lot of corruption going on, with all these homes just being donated to universities. Done things never change, they just get worse with time

    Excellent video. Thank you.

  7. @sallymayhill on December 8, 2023 at 8:29 am

Love the content. Not the music.

  8. @paulswiader3690 on December 8, 2023 at 8:31 am

Great video! You could easily do a video on the many mansions that have been destroyed in Newport. As beautiful as it is now they were twice as many incredible estates.

14:20 I love how he said she moved from Land’s end to The Mount as a downsize, like she moved into a two-bedroom apartment or started doing Van Life or something. 💀

  10. @laurimas8845 on December 8, 2023 at 8:33 am

Couldn’t these videos be narrated by a real person? They would be more interesting.

  11. @deemariedubois4916 on December 8, 2023 at 8:34 am

    Thanks, nice video.

  12. @janiceminuto1707 on December 8, 2023 at 8:34 am

I loved Jay Leno’s house, it was lovely and well decorated.

    cool

  14. @kevindecot186 on December 8, 2023 at 8:36 am

I’ve fallen in love with the Guilded Age. It harkens back to a time when America was truly booming. Now we seem to be in decay 😢

  15. @iloveTRUMP on December 8, 2023 at 8:37 am

I visited the Breakers…it was truly magical…at the top of the stairs I gazed over the balcony and lost myself in a make believe ball …the beautiful ballgowns with tiny waists…the gentlemen spinning them in their black tails….I longed to go downstairs and join in

  16. @j.w.grayson6937 on December 8, 2023 at 8:41 am

We are looking at visiting Newport in Oct 2023. Not sure which ones I’ll visit, but a few for sure.

  17. @l.w.d.431 on December 8, 2023 at 8:42 am

That’s Miramar not Clarendon court. Trust me my family owned Miramar and I’m pretty insulted that you got it incorrect.

  18. @candydavis4203 on December 8, 2023 at 8:42 am

I visited one of the mansions years ago that had a gold carriage, a huge chandelier, and I remember a painting that had eyes following you. Cant remember the name of it.

  19. @TheHk1966 on December 8, 2023 at 8:44 am

One of my distant ancestors founded #9…how cool is that? Cheers from Toronto Canada

  20. @l.w.d.431 on December 8, 2023 at 8:48 am

Miramar went for 17.5 million to the ford family. I would know it’s my families home.

  21. @kellywilliamson2187 on December 8, 2023 at 8:48 am

I have lived here for over 20 years and have not heard of most of these. I do feel fortunate, I bought a condo in one of the mansions here on Rhode Island avenue – I still can’t believe I live there.

  22. @Glen-ft8ch on December 8, 2023 at 8:49 am

I was there in September 1994.

  23. @AlloBruxelles on December 8, 2023 at 8:49 am

Rosecliff has always been my favorite.
That hasn’t changed since I moved to Aquidneck Island 4 years ago.

  24. @arslongavitabrevis5136 on December 8, 2023 at 8:52 am

There is no such thing as "American aristocracy", that is an oxymoron. What you had was a plutocracy, which is a ruling class formed by awfully wealthy people. Nothing has changed since the late 19th century, the only difference is that instead of identifiable, greedy and ruthless multimillionaires (J.P. Morgan, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, etc) you now have corporations who are 100 times worse.

  25. @Glen-ft8ch on December 8, 2023 at 8:53 am

    Patterson will pay !!!!

  26. @angelinam358 on December 8, 2023 at 8:54 am

I find it fairly weird that people name their home.

  27. @donaldgehre5964 on December 8, 2023 at 8:55 am

    eat the rich.

  28. @karengoonting2561 on December 8, 2023 at 8:55 am

Thank you very much for this wonderful and most informative tour.
(Just a small suggestion – I found the background music a little incongruous with the subject matter. Perhaps something less techo/mechanical and fast-paced might have set a more appropriate mood?).

  29. @duplessis3 on December 8, 2023 at 8:56 am

a city which may well be in the smallest state? Did AI write this.

  30. @patriciakaye4999 on December 8, 2023 at 8:59 am

I was hoping you’d mention Hammersmith Farm, though not opulent and probably still a private residence. I was lucky enough to tour there, and loved being able to see a part of the Kennedy history. I love Newport and the Doris Duke mansion is still on my bucket list.

  32. @erikaleonard2848 on December 8, 2023 at 9:01 am

They are all beautiful 😍 but #2 looks like the playboy mansion in CA😂

  33. @lgempet2869 on December 8, 2023 at 9:01 am

In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if all these homes were were haunted!😬 So much history.

  34. @shawnmorton6409 on December 8, 2023 at 9:03 am

How fascinating to see #1 & #25 designed by distant ancestor George Champlin Mason.

  35. @troybailey6904 on December 8, 2023 at 9:03 am

The more I see, these homes are Fugly

Homes like this inspired me to name my home

  38. @andrewaway on December 8, 2023 at 9:05 am

My favourite is The Elms but honestly Newport makes me feel a bit sick. Ostentatious over indulgence.

  39. @presspound7358 on December 8, 2023 at 9:08 am

Thank you for the tour. Well shot, nimbly edited and loaded with historic references.
    Excellent!👍🇨🇦

  42. @jimw2533 on December 8, 2023 at 9:10 am

Marble House has 500,000 cubic feet of marble, not 500. You might want to correct this.

  43. @drewgayle8325 on December 8, 2023 at 9:11 am

What one had a visiting thing on youtube ?

  44. @LlyleHunter on December 8, 2023 at 9:13 am

    Roseclicff is my favorite.
I love the French. They make exceptional toast, wonderful fries and they kiss so nicely.

  45. @troybailey6904 on December 8, 2023 at 9:13 am

Sounds like the “Old Money” is running out. 😊

  46. @michaelreece2966 on December 8, 2023 at 9:16 am

Why would you use a photo of The Vanderbilt Mansion to promote about Newport mansions?

  47. @yuniyonson on December 8, 2023 at 9:17 am

Loved ALL of them….and a great bonus was that you could pronounce all their names correctly"

  48. @user-kw2jg7ok8c on December 8, 2023 at 9:18 am

    amazing

  49. @jephybean on December 8, 2023 at 9:18 am

Number 7 was featured as Collinwood in Dark Shadows original TV series: I’m surprised that was not mentioned. As soon as I saw it, I thought "HEY!"

  50. @davidcattin7006 on December 8, 2023 at 9:19 am

Seaview was used as the exterior of the Collins family mansion in the soap opera Dark Shadows. You had to rush home every day after school to see what mischief Barnabas had gotten into. ;o)
