Thank you.
At 15:37. Here’s a guy who gave $30,000 at one point (and many thousands more) to the church and its members. Where are they when his family is starving?

I came back to the church when I sobered up in 2010. I have been active in the church for over 13 years now. This story has always stuck by me and has remained one of my favorite videos
I am one of his descendants
Is this a true story?
Love from South Africa 🇿🇦 . Everytime I watch this , I cry and remember about the sacrifices early members went through. As an less active who is slowly returning to the fold, I see the Lords blessings and love from the members
I’m a direct descendant of John Tanner as well. I saw this video when it first came out with my mother’s side of the family who are the descendants as well. He is a personal hero of mine with what he sacrificed and the strong faith he had. A fantastic story of history I will never forget and will pass down to future generations. It has inspired me for many years to live a good life, served a mission, and now staying strong with the faith.
I love his experience, uplifting spirit.
Decided to throw in $50,000 from 1840 in an inflation calculator.
_$1,652,321.84 would be how much according to it._

That’s definitely, an inspiring expression of gratitude. I mean, that experience would most certainly inspire one to effortlessly give graciously back to the power that essentially extended one’s life instead of resigning himself to certain death.
Previously, on driver san francisco
The blank screen at the end is supposed to say,
”Six years later in the Salt Lake Valley, John Tanner died, still strong in faith, having given his all.
It is estimated that the properties John Tanner sold in Bolton, New York would now be worth more than 250 million dollars.
He gave the Church two fortunes – his wealth and a family that has built the kingdom ever since.” Leonard J. Arrington
Ensign, 1979

Me too Johnathan we are cousins I am proud to be the great grand daughter of John Tanner.
Because of this video I have decided to go on a lds mission, I have felt I needed to at this part, 6:30 … if this video had not been uploaded I would have never heard of john tanner and never gone… thank you
"I’m grateful for your efforts on my behalf Dr. Blake. But the leg and I came into this world together, and together we shall depart it." 😀 <3 I love that. Father John Tanner is amazing! What an incredible story of how God brings us to His truth, show and do kindness to others, and the Lord will take care of you. What an incredible man. And this video was so well done!
One of my favorites so far! A very powerful and touching story!
A question. Bro Tanner had income producing properties. A farm, saw mill and a hotel amongst other things. Possibly he could have rented other properties. Why not continue to garner income from businesses and rent rather than sell all that?
What a great story! The first time I saw this video I was on my mission and I loved it! ♥️
Same
My husband John Tanner is a descendent of this man.
Don’t mind me. Just crying over here.
Great example to apply in our life. Many greetings from Lima, Peru
Thank you ever so much for uploading this video. I have watched hundreds of LDS videos and never came across this one. This should be posted to Hard to find Mormon Videos youtube channel. For posterity sake.

Whenever i watch the testimony of john tanner .. i will never complete this video without shedding tears… Such a strong and great testimony of john tanner … Which made me to to testify about prophet joseph smith and this restored gospel of Jesus christ … Amen…
You know you’re gaining ground on the straight and narrow path when your decisions inspire and move the prophet of a dispensation to tears…
I’m grateful to be a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. I know this church is the only true church in earth and the Book of Mormon is true and we have a living prophet to guide us all.
Met one of John Tanner’s Great Grandsons today. Just had his first child last week. He would be proud of his descendants!
