I live in Worcester County and never heard of this town. I’ll go explore it soon

Great video guys! And did I hear something about Paddock??

  3. Beckie Jani on September 21, 2022 at 10:03 pm

My father grew up in Ware, not too far from the Quabbin. He remembered all of this (he would be 100 this coming Dec, now doesn’t THAT make me feel old!) and it used to make him sad that they had to take those towns. But it is a beautiful place.

This place is only an hour and a half from me and I was able to visit yesterday. I tried to look for the sites beyond the Common but I couldn’t find them. Which trail did you take off of Greenwich Dana Road? There were a few I passed by but didn’t want to accidentally go down the wrong one!

  5. Melanie Drewnowski on September 21, 2022 at 10:06 pm

Hi! So glad we ran into you at the Dana common…we loved seeing your video and learned so much more about the place. Glad you found all those sights, we couldn’t wait to find out! Good luck in your next adventures!

That’s a pretty interesting place. We have a reservoir by me that has an old town underneath. You can actually see some foundations during droughts.

Absolutely excellent video. Very accurate & thorough. Not one mistake that I could find. I have been doing hikes & bus trips with the Swift River Valley Historical Society (most recent June 23 2019) since the 1980’s. My father’s side was from Enfield, & my great great grandmother’s brother was N.L. Johnson (showed Johnson home on Dana Common). You went at the right time – just after the snow melts & crushes down the growth so that the foundations are most evident, before all the new growth comes back. The Wendell Farnsworth grave is so obscure (hard to find), that even when someone told me where it was, I could not find it – I had to be brought to it. enough people seem to know its location, it would seem. Congrats & thanks for very informative video.

  13. Kevin’s Lost Treasure on September 21, 2022 at 10:17 pm

I grew up in Worcester area. Never knew this! Thanks! I’ll be sure to go explore. Think metal detecting is allowed?

  14. Scott Dunbar on September 21, 2022 at 10:18 pm

Hey Chuck, do you by any chance have a background in history? Your informative commentary really makes your videos especially fun and interesting.

Great and interesting video. So many treasures. It must have been a wonderful day for you. I lived right next to the Wachusett reservoir in the early ninety’s. I used to cycle out to the Quabbin reservoir sometimes. I have fond memories of the cycling I did in that great and beautiful area of central Massachusetts.

Amazing video. killer hosting and research

  20. Matt Dill on September 21, 2022 at 10:24 pm

It’s kind of sad all those towns were lost, but overall it was beneficial to all of New England. Boston is the primary reason New England has economic wealth and political influence.

So, thank you Dana and other towns for making us one of wealthiest regions on this continent.

  21. Mat Benjamin on September 21, 2022 at 10:25 pm

Thank you for not advertising the location of the crash and grave site. Hate for them to get overly disturbed from careless people.

  28. Teddy Brown on September 21, 2022 at 10:38 pm

I just went last Saturday, with the blistering heat of 91, probably not the best day to check it out. I was curious where the root cellar, the gravestone and the Indian kitchen are located. I am planning on checking it out again sometime soon. Let me know how I can find them as I definitely want to check them out next time I go. Thanks for sharing this!

  29. Freespiritangel61 on September 21, 2022 at 10:39 pm

  30. TJS on September 21, 2022 at 10:40 pm

There’s a really good PBS documentary from channel 57 called "Under the Quabbin" where they actually went underneath it. If you can ever find it somehow I recommend it.

  31. Evan Markle on September 21, 2022 at 10:41 pm

Great vid as always! I wouldn’t want to walk through those woods in mid summer, as on my visit I saw several black racers and a rattlesnake in the school foundation. I would’ve preferred your encounter with the porcupine better!

  32. Kate Adams on September 21, 2022 at 10:41 pm

Wendell Farnsworth had several siblings, most lived long lives. The family moved to Illinois shortly after his death: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/171093807/wendell-phillips-farnsworth

Thanks for letting us tag along with you! (Btw, that Air Force pilot should have known that planes with empty tanks usually don’t explode when crashing. Just sayin’…)
