Back on the gold – Metal Detecting Gold Nuggets in the Nevada Desert
Back on the gold – Metal Detecting Gold Nuggets in the Nevada Desert
I’ve been out on the desert searching for high grade in an old pocket mining district. Its my first full scale prospecting trip after the crash. This is a mining district where there were no really big mines – Just a lot of little high grade prospects. I’m checking out the old time mine dumps with my metal detector. I’m also doing hillside prospecting, looking for residual and eluvial placers – stuff that has never been in a drainage.
For those who want to learn more about Prospecting and finding gold check out my book, Fists full of Gold. It’s an encyclopedia of everything on the topic of prospecting. It’s available on Amazon. You can find it at (affiliate):

Thanks for the Tips my friend I haven’t made my first metal detector purchase I still haven’t decided with wich one to go with, would love one that is also water proof as well 😀 BTW Happy fathers day my friend. New subscriber here!
I can tell your not 100% on recovery. Need to walk get your wind back. 30 yrs of back neck injury surgeries and the fight to stay out and about. Hang in there
Nice finds !!!! Looking forward to seeing whats in that piece !!!!!
Happy to see you out! Hope you fully recover soon =) try not to over do it when your out there!
i got a canvas cutter dominator 2.0 bedroll. i sleep in the back of my truck. water proof. just a nice wool blanket and travel pillow. good to go hope you get better faster. have a good day.
Good to have you back in the saddle!!!!
I have a question.
How do tell how the ground was worked? I’m trying to get permission on a hillside, it’s shallow ground with course piles towards the bottom there isn’t any shafts or trenches, I know it hasn’t been worked for a long time but there’s almost no regrowth.
I’m wishing you and your wife well and a full quick recovery.
.
Happy Fathers Day Chris
So glad you are feeling better and able to get out again. Congrats on the gold and Happy Hunting!
I’m so glad you are doing better! Your a good man!
Good video enjoyed
I hope you’re fine now! 😃🇫🇮
Which gold district were you detecting in?
Good to see you up and about.
🍻
Happy Fathers Day enjoyed watching your video nice gold.🙂
Not bad Chris, Some do even get that much going out. Glad to see up and out there. Stay healthy and look forward to the next video.
Glad you both are ok and getting better, your channel is one of my favorite! If anyone is wondering, his book is very helpful and covers so much. I went from knowing basically nothing about gold, minerals, and geology to having a better knowledge base to where I at least feel way more confident! I do have a question for you, Chris, if you see this? I was just curious if anyone has ever found gold in the surrounding hills/mountains around Lake Tahoe? I tried to look it up but wasn’t able to find much of anything. Thank you for your time and happy Father’s day Chris.
Did you make it to Alaska?
ANY gold is great! Great to see you back at it. I look forward to the next video.
Damn glad you and the Mrs are still here! Keep sharing your wealth of knowledge Chris and thanks for continuing on and sharing your recovery. Love to you and yours, Stanley
Very informative! Thanks!
Glad your are back in the hunt. Hope you heal 100%. Thanks…..
Love the vid, glad you are back out. I rock hound a lot of mineralized quartz chunks like yours, but have yet to score with metal detector, old Gold Bug 19k Hz.
Horrible Sound
Tape a piece of foam , [ thin} over the mic to stop a lot of the wind noise , if not all .
Chris, Just wanted to thank you for the information in your Fist Full of Gold book. I am just starting metal detecting with a Gold Bug 2 and It did find the tiny piece of gold on the card that I bought at the NWGPA.
I didn’t know of your accident but I’m glad to see you on the mend, I haven’t seen any of your videos in a while but they are always interesting and of course great help. Take care it takes time and great effort to try to get back 100% good luck and by all means keep moving.
Hello Chris, welcome back and im glad to hear you’re doing better! Great video as usual!
Thank goodness you were in a big truck. Hope you feel better soon!
Glad to see you’re recovering, thanks for the videos. Those pieces should weigh more, they’re nice and chunky, gravity is so unfair.
Doing a thing you like even not at 100% is important.
Thanks for the great content Chris! I’m a younger prospector (30, that’s still “young” right? 😅). Wasn’t able to make it to the GPAA meeting to buy one of your books, but will order one from Amazon now! Always eager to get out and learn within a two hour radius of Winnemucca so if you’re ever in the area it would be great to go out! Take care and be safe!
Mr. Ralph, I just appreciate your honest assessments of things without taking away from the adventure of prospecting.
It good to see you back on the trail. One step at a time and before long….
Mr. Ralph we haven’t seen you with the GPZ7000
So I just crossed your channel, trying to find out how the old timer’s knew where to mine for gold. I explore the old abandoned mines on my channel, and each time I come across one, I’m perplexed as to why the miners chose to mine in that particular spot. After watching a few of your videos, I’m beginning to get a better understanding. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I was just out to Delamar, NV the other day, and now I’m in the Bristol Mine area poking around.
You almost make a guy want to go out and get himself a metal detector!
Awesome to see you back in the field my friend, small steps at a time is the best way, stay safe and happy hunting my friend 🤠⛏️🇦🇺
Happy Father’s day, God bless
I’m glad you and your wife are doing better. Thank you for sharing.
Glad to see you out again Chris. Keep the videos coming! A wind sock would probably cut your noise level on the camera. They’re called "dead cats," and Amazon has them pretty cheap. Love your book.
Good to see you back in the field ! The background appears very enticing with all that Limonite ! To reduce wind noise, I recommend a cordless microphone with foam cover. I wear one under the scarf and does a really good job filtering background noise and wind. Buy it on eBay for about $30. Just be sure your camera or phone is compatible. Good luck !!
Good to see you back, sharing your golden knowledge, very helpful to me, love your videos
Very helpful video , Im in the begining of my prospecting career I live here in Nevada , your book and mag I plan to purchase Im quite sure thats exactly what I need , thank you
Looking good for being in a head on!
So happy your out prospecting again Chris! Stay hydrated, eat well and get good sleep: good advice for being out in Nevada, and a hat too! Will you do a time lapse break-open/ crush/classify, clean/seperate on your sample and then show the result?
Good info 👍
Im looking to buy an entry level detector in the Vegas area. Is it important to get a detector with adjustable ground balance to adjust for Nevada soil types? Seems like the entry level detectors only have factory set ground balance.
Sorry to hear of your accident…glad to see you back on the gold..take care lots of best wishes from NZ
Be safe out there!
Hi Chris,
Hope you are both well, not great hearing about the truck accident, nice to see you are back doing videos again.

Regards
Richard
I want to go prospecting for gold and I know most of the gold are in the rocks with some pocket out there. How do you find the veins and the pockets?
