A good tool to have with you when checking for gold on a gravel bar would be one of those auger-style post hole diggers. Dig straight down a foot and test. Then test the second, third and fourth foot down and see if there is gold deeper…. Just an idea.
Under bridges may or may not be public. In some cases, the DOT purchased the land and in others, it is leased. In either case, they did not purchase mineral rights so you are legally trespassing if you are digging. My rule is this: If I am not personally paying the property taxes where I am digging, I need the owners permission. You will get by sometimes if you don’t but I can tell you from experience that is not fun debating the issue when staring down the barrel of a shot gun. Get permission.

Im in Greenville/greer/taylors area and Ive tried a few creeks around east north street and old Spartanburg highway but have yet to find some color. not looking to get rich but would love to see some colors..Only colors I have gotten is seeded bags from gold mines in NC.. Could you point me to somewhere close to my area to try?
I know I can go back there I’ve been going back there since I was a little kid. There are some small water falls 2. When could u go over there?
All you need is a shovel, gold pan and a five gallon bucket. That’s all I carry when checking out new areas. I put the panning cons in the bucket to pan out later. I just quick pan and as soon as I see color, I dump it into the bucket and continue sampling other areas. I am not far away. If you get access to a creek and have nothing, I can meet you and show you how to get started. Good luck.
you need me to teach you where to dig. the back of the sand bar, the gravel layer in the bank. start there.
Most rocky creeks above the fall line have some color. It’s often just not worth the effort to work for 30 minutes for 4 fly poop size specks of gold though. Try National Forest areas like Abbeville. Get permission from the ranger because some areas have claims. All state parks are off limits. Ask neighbors and relatives if you can pan their creeks. There are very few "public" areas east of the Mississippi river. Good luck!
Sure hope you guys make some more videos there awesome ! Thank you very much.
A wonderful, very interesting video! Thank you for your friendship and kind comments on my videos! Class D!
Went back a few years to watch this one… man, I’d love to do some digging lol
Also love some of them older wood sluices
Hey Boyz. I have a question for you all. Gosh. You guys are digging the bottoms ofΒ those ancient creek bedsΒ up like that. It looks exciting!Β Looks cool, fun, and a greatΒ way to spead an evening or kill some times in non-harmful way.Β Those hills and creeks are prime lands for the ancients.Β All along those creeks there were indians, who lived, and traveled up and down those streams for well over 10,000+ years.Β So my question: Occasionally, you boyz would have to run into some points, or come across some type of artifacts.Β I found pieces just eyeballing, catching minnies for fishing, and just creek walking up and down streams. So how about it boyz, what have you boyz found in the ways of indians spears or arrowheads??? Thanks for your time men. Respectfully, Daniel
The gravel bar had gold throughout but the most was on the upstream side. It was a little better the deeper we got but not as much as we expected overall. This is the same bar we ran through the high banker in the Creek 5 dredging video recently posted. You are in a great area for gold. Hope you strike it rich. Let us know how you do. We love to see gold.
Good luck with the prospecting, James.
Brilliant videos, I bought a Bazooka after watching a lot of your stuff. Thanks for the time you take.
Thank you, razorback0z. Great people like you are why we do these videos. Good luck with the Bazooka. You are going to love it.
now you guys talk about jetdry,, what is that? thanks
Where can a weekend prospector pan near Camden SC?
Yes Sir. The same Jet Dry on you local grocery shelf. Great stuff and doesn’t make a lot of suds which can wash out gold too. Thanks for watching!
I know that creek… I played in it as a kid nearly 25 years ago.
Man I would love to go panning with you guys
Some days are better than others. It depends on if you hit that lucky spot or not. I suspect if we can find the source, we would be pretty happy but most of what we are finding is flood gold. It’s a hobby, not a job. Thanks for watching.
Gosto muito de ver os seus videos amigo
Are those public places
i would love to go on a gold trip, but i live in centrel missouri and i think id have to travel pretty far to find any,,,,,, awesome job guys keep the vids coming
Hello, just ran across your videos about finding gold, placer mining….I’m currently doing research in preparation to writing a book about the forgotten gold mining history in and around Charlotte, N.C. In going around and photographing what’s left of the old mines around the area (there ain’t much left) I’ve scratched around and surprisingly have found a little. Not yet enough to quit my day job, but enough to say I have indeed found some. If one found enough gold to maybe be worth selling, how would you go about this? I’ve surely not found enough to sell, just curious. S.C. has been kicking ass with the amount of gold found there over the recent years…Kennecot/Ridgeway mine and the Haile…just further proves that there is indeed enough gold left in this general area that the ‘old-timers’ didn’t find to make it potentially profitable now. Really glad to have found your videos, has taught me a lot about placer mining. I’d for sure be interested in corresponding with you guys about local gold mining history–‘Ancient Sluices Discovered’ sure has piqued my interest. My e-mail Β billcr26@gmail.com
I am fascinated by the videos, really you guys are very good at articulating what your doing in the videos, makes it really easy to follow as well as develop the notion to pan for gold. I would like to plan a gold panning trip, thinking about thermal city. Although I would like to be able to join you guys out there instead. If this is possible, please let me know.
Bet you didn’t even think about it having gold in it did you? Lol! I have looked for rocks and minerals in lots of creeks and forgot to try panning for gold. Now, I am kicking my own fanny! Thanks for watching James.
I’m in York right next to Newport in south Carolina . I have a lot of creeks around my house do u think there could be gold in them?
Bout where is creek lil
Your info is very good just bout me a gold hog for me and my son to start prospecting
great video . Do you know whether the pumpkintown area is worth trying . I have kin therer and was wondering about the area .
glad to see some videos of gold panning in SC .. thinking of getting into it just for a part time thing .. so any advice would be good ? what about upstate SC .. like Greenville , Laurens and PIckens area ?
if you do not want snakes to bite you have to use a vibrator stuck in the ground to scare them away, the snakes are completely deaf, they only feel the vibrations
ok yeah im not trying to get shot
The upstate is where you need to go. Nothing south of Columbia. Stay above the fall line. Look for rocky creeks or rivers. Be sure to get permission from landowners. There is almost no public land anywhere. Stay out of state parks. They will arrest you. All you need to get started is a gold pan, shovel, snuffer bottle and bucket. Good luck. Hope you strike it rich!
Own several dredges. Probably get another one this spring. A boy can never have too many toys. Thanks for watching.
Great idea, Alan. Easier to dig than with a shovel and more accurate too. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion.
This jet dry you speak of, is that simply the same jet dry that is used in the dishwasher? Any and ll info that works is great as I have recently taken of this addicting hobby of trying to find the gold. Thanks for the Vids
ty, it has been fun so far, not been finding near as much as ya’ll, but most my stuff is home-made. I do plan on buying a prefabricated sluice cause of weight, The one I made weighs nearly 40 lbs(a guess). I live in NC currently and laws on streams here are different then SC, but I don’t mind trespassing so… Well, I’ve always held a belief that someones not trespassing till they been asked to leave and my idea is to come and go without them knowing.
Thanks I will let u know how it turns out when I get some panning stuff. What do I need to get started?
Back again.. One of these days lol.. Hope you have a good weekend…
Also just to check with you is it ok to pan under bridges off highways? From what I understand its public or am I wrong? Or do you know?
Do you figure there is any gold to be found in Richland county?
Ha! I would love to go too, Ben. Too much work and no time for play. I need a gold or treasure hunting fix. We appreciate you watching.
I was like 10, so no gold wasn’t on my mind. Looking for gold has been a recent thing.
thanks for the info .
You are in the best part of the state for gold. I would be surprised if you didn’t find color in those creeks. Get permission from the landowners and go for it. Let me know if I can help in any way and good luck.
I have found some gold near Pumpkintown just off Hwy. 11. It wasn’t anything to get excited about but gold none the less. Give it a try. Try as many creeks as you can get permission to access. The next creek may be loaded. Thanks for watching Tom. Let us know if you strike it rich.
