DARK SILVER: Legend of the Lost Southern Indiana Silver Mine
DARK SILVER: Legend of the Lost Southern Indiana Silver Mine
There’s an old legend, dating back over 200 years ago. It says that underneath the rolling hills of Southern Indiana, lies a vast silver mine, holding immense wealth. Known only to the Indians, that once lived there, silver was reportedly mined and smelted into crude silver ingots, and traded to the white man for milling their corn. So filled with silver was the mine, that Indians boasted that there was enough silver, to shoe every horse in the county, with silver horseshoes!
It sounds like an amazing campfire story, but what if it were actually true? I’ve spent over 40 years tracing the legend back to its roots, from my Great Grandmothers story, to libraries, and caves in the wilderness. What I found, was nothing short of amazing. This is both a very personal account of my adventure, but also a tale of dark deeds, greed and secrets on the Indiana frontier.
Filmed on location at Charlestown, Vincennes, Sellersburg, Henryville, New Albany, Memphis, Galena, Greenville, Mitchell, Silverville, Palmyra, Rockport, Mauckport, Leavenworth, and Shoals, Indiana. Also filmed at both Wolfe and Clay Counties in Kentucky.
UPDATES / TRIVIA
The quote used at the end of the movie, usually attributed to Maya Angelou, “life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away,” was created by someone else. There’s an interesting history behind it.
In 1989, Vicki Corona wrote a book called “Tahitian Choreographies”, about dancing. It said, “Remember that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away! Dancing can do that for you!” The phrase has been used in movies and pop culture, but Vicki seems to have the earliest use of the phrase.

Maybe it’s better if it hasn’t been found yet, to remain hidden. I dont know if those properties are pubic or private. But if its state or federal, the person seeking will get very little, or maybe none at all
Awesome job!!!
Thanks for this video! You really know how to bring the story to life!
roger. what a cool adventure thanks for sharing your vast research. subscribed and will definitely be looking at your other content.
I worked at IU for 27 years. In front of Gresham Hall there’s a revolutionary war graveyard. A lot of the tombstones have my Maiden name on them of Rogers. I’d love to see what you can find out about that ! I worked at night in almost every building there and I can tell you that the only one haunted is the Wells Library. Several of us saw a Spector of a lady in there in the wee morning hours.
You can look at Terry Carter’s Channel. Something like Dousing the right way and ancient underground civilizations. Robert Shrewsbury Has ir down cold. It works for me. All the oil barons were dousers. The Spanish had a two man version of dousing. Robert covers the false signals and signal drift. It’s helped me a lot. I heard of two guys taking a slightly different return trip and not finding their truck. they doused it. Went right to it. WoW.
I use it on ore…… I like.
I have been to this place in shoals in
The overview of where the cave was located looks like the map with the two diamonds
well done
I have lived in southern Indiana my whole life. What a great story and adventure. Thanks for taking us along.
Did you ever search Turtle Rock on W River Road and a place called Bakers Ferry? ( Shoals Indiana) I believe that the 7 bags of gold for Turtle Rock are in a cave underwater between that said Rock and Bakers Ferry. Hindostan Falls, the cave is supposedly to the far right of falls and actually comes out in a part of woods near Hindostan. I’ve been a treasure hunter in Indiana for many years. I use my XP Deus metal detector. I believe once the water goes down I will unearth the treasure of Hindostan, that the tax collector hid.
Very beautiful areas, no silver found but that’s okay, legends are not always true but who knows, maybe at some point in time it was true.
My great-grandmother was born in Martin County, in 1885, and is buried there, along with my great-grandfather…my grandparents went to Shoals School, as did my great uncle. The Watson and Hotz families have long histories in that area, the old house in Indian Springs was still standing when I was last there, 40 years ago…it is said that my great-grandfather, Willis Edgin Watson, had Indian blood…I have heard these stories all of my life, thanks for sharing this great adventure with us; it made me feel closer to them!
again. thank you. i live on red bank trace. old growth woods with natural creeks. thank you.
I have a friend that is about 50 miles east of this area that has tables full of the native tools that u mentioned that has come from his property…a man could travel by canoe only between thees two spots
The buyers ohad no right to do so. Always a John popping up on every very mischievous part of the past.

Great story! I’m a southern Indiana resident in Clark County! I can’t wait to show this to my dad
I have a hunch where the treasure is and it should still be together

You are a fantastic storyteller! I’m not even halfway through this one and I am subbing your channel right now. I don’t even care if you ever find that legendary silver. The story is a real TREASURE! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and tales.
Very Awesome Story and Adventure !!! 5 Stars lol
Fantastic story thank You
Story o most had me cute tail
I grew up in north Idaho, rich with native American lore, silver and gold mines plus french Canadian trappers. Most excellent adventure. I thank you from my 60 years old body.
This really kicks ass Sir . Not sure how else to put it .. I commend you and thank you. Would be very willing to assist in an adventure , I would be more like a mage or Oracle as a party member . Always been connected to the information field and since cheating death years ago I receive much information others would not even know of . It would be fun for me to hone some skills and practice further assentation while assisting such a grounded spirit as yourself . My cooking would be healing based as well as grounding to the field . In truth I believe ya need to ditch the car at a choosen point and grift with planned resources / food tools ext/and become part of the environment itself . 3 or 4 day investigation on foot with nature . Focused and confident with over 50 percent chance of being near the source . Dover Hills mention did jump out at me;) From western Ny , not that distant for impromptu gathering .Blessings to you !
Yeah indians just showed up because they wanted to show some random white guy their massive treasure cave. Unlikely.
I’m British but loved this video. New sub here. Thank you.
Use LIDAR
Brother at the minute 49:56 there is a nother hidden cave entrance … because I am sure indians used a good ways to hide there Fortune
I followed the treasure map to the buried treasure but didn’t bother digging it up? I was familiar with the swift silver story yet never heard of the Indiana story though I live just a couple miles from Hunters creek and have been the cemetery where your grandmothers grave is. I was born in southeast Kentucky so this is very interesting to me. good story, but it is just a story.
This is a fantastic movie. I really enjoyed this. Thank You.
When the great ice age covered the earth: The glacier ended just above the Hoosier National Forest, in what is now Brown County, Monroe County on Bean Blossom Creek. (Bartholomew County.) Many Mineral deposits are found in that area.
This is why the Northern part of Indiana is flat because it was covered with glacier. And the Southern part is rolling with hills.. Where the melted glacier waters flowed.
Also a memo: In the first Surveys of the State of Indiana: Indiana Counties had different geographical boundaries, Until they Resurveyed Indiana in 1836 and added additional Counties, as they are today. There was no Brown County until 1836.
Bean Blossom in Indiana is one of the oldest villages in Indiana, in this area.
It was called Georgetown and was a trading post with the French and Indians.
The Migrating Native Americans, that the government made to leave their land in the Eastern States, followed the streams creeks and water ways. Bean Blossom creek, at Bean Blossom, in Brown County is one of the Creek the Native Americans followed, because of the rich plant life and animals followed the creek. (Mineral supply.)
I taught myself how to astral project, or remote view other places, while I sleep (still fully conscious). I just haven’t figured out how to go to a specific place yet. BUT THAT! Will be the first place I go.
Or SR 37 North
Well. as much as l thought l knew about Indiana History, l don’t quite know as much as I thought. Thanks for enlightening a native born Hoosier on this great story.
Why did I bawl through most of this video?
For a real good story " The Haunting Of Auto Body Scotty "is now on you-tube. Poltergeist Demon , Wendigo, Bigfoot, and a 7 Footer with one eye caught running through the house during the Exorcism. I’m violated by a Succubus go to "NW Paranormal Sightings" it aired on local Channel 8 News in Portland, OR. in 2019.
Do you see the face on the left hand side at 49:45? I do.
I freaking couldn’t quit watching this! TY SO MUCH! Great storyline Great filming Great job.
I’ve drank out a spout springs many of time, my dad and my younger brother used to fish there all the time, if you go back that day it in road, back in I think the ’80s, a man’s daughter got raped and killed at the back part of that road. We used to fish at the mouth of beavercreek where it run into White River many of many days when I was 10 -11 years old. We used to catch a lot of white perch out of that River and some catfish. I know all that area very good. If you come out of the road and turn right you go right up there and on the right there be a road that veers to the right and there’s a gunshop up there called harders gun shop.
Hello Brother, Thank You so much for sharing your exciting life path… I drank it up like a tall glass of cool water… 🌲🦅🦉🦅🌲
Awesome story, have been through some of those areas driving but its outside my normal travels from Illinois. Now I want to make a detour just to see the scenery, and who doesn’t love a good mystery or tale of treasure to go with it.
Thanks for sharing the tales and travel
It almost looks like your traveling along US 50 east
