Exploring A 1930s Alaskan Gold Mine!

Exploring A 1930s Alaskan Gold Mine!

In this special 1 hour and 40 minute special presentation, I take a epic adventure into the Alaskan wilderness to completely explore and document the “Nabesna’ Gold Mine. Beginning in 1929, and running all the way to 1942, this old mine is a true time capsule to the life and times of miners carving in success in the harsh Alaska terrain.

For the entire written backstory and my personal photo album of what remains, see my page’s album below:

What percent of the material from the Mine did they process at this site versus taking it into town to process?

That fender is the back fender of a model A Ford. I’d of grabbed that too.

This is by far one of my absolute favorite mine exploration videos. My dream is to move to Alaska someday, I want to purchase a small RV and travel across the West in search of many gold mines starting in San Diego and working my way up to Colorado and then on my way to Alaska, where I would like to stay indefinitely. I am so glad I stumbled across this video. So much about this video fascinates me. Everything from how you climbed up those very steep mountains, to the Old 74 or 75 pickup truck, to the Model T axle that you found, to the drill bit and old radiator. And the views of the mountains literally took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. This is what my heart has been yearning for since as long as I can remember. I can’t thank you enough for this video 🙂

  31. SanFranciscoBay on April 12, 2023 at 2:57 pm

Great video. Must have taken a tremendous amount of effort to build, supply and maintain a Mine in that type of weather and remote location.

  32. JosephShane Ferguson on April 12, 2023 at 2:58 pm

    go get the truck

  33. Joshua Berner on April 12, 2023 at 2:59 pm

  34. David G on April 12, 2023 at 2:59 pm

Some of the wood planks on those old buildings as beautiful it could be repurposed what ashamed of see it just sit there and go to waste

  35. SanFranciscoBay on April 12, 2023 at 2:59 pm

This looks like the kind of place that if you fell or was hit by a falling rock which disabled your body, nobody would find you. The kind of place that you would want to travel with another person to assist you if you were injured.

  36. SanFranciscoBay on April 12, 2023 at 3:00 pm

The youtbube channel "mbmmllc" might be able to assist you with determining what piece of machinery does what in the Mine. He has a website and sells small mining gear.

Yoou are boring. Your voice is monotonous.

the roads there are just like pa coal mine strip roads rough rock and dirt not repaired ever

  41. SanFranciscoBay on April 12, 2023 at 3:07 pm

These are the numbers I’m getting on an inflation calculator website. In 1940 the Mine had shipped 73,000 tons of ore valued at $1,869,396. In 2023 that amount is worth $40,170,649. So 1.8 million in 1940 to 40 million in 2023. From your facebook link "From 1931 through 1937 he shipped ore valued at $965,000 to the Tacoma smelter. By 1940 the mine had shipped 73,000 tons of ore valued at $1,869,396."

So quiet – very few birds making sounds. Beautiful – would love to be a younger man now and spend time exploring the Alaskan Wilderness. WONDERFUL EDUCATIONAL VIDEO!!!!

  48. Steve The Ford Guy on April 12, 2023 at 3:20 pm

Totally an awesome look back to a time that most of us would never see or really know much about. I was happy to see that you had a good head on your shoulders and was safety minded young man, that whole place is polluted with chemicals, I wondered if some of those 55 gallon drums might be full of toxic waste, there are so many all around the mill site. The mill looks to be leaning and not very safe. The size of the beams were very thick, when that mill starts to collapse, you don`t want to be near it for sure. I was glued to my seat watching this video, never seen anything like this, it is a time capsule. Thank you

  49. Half-a-man on April 12, 2023 at 3:21 pm

This was a good video. It was like looking back into time.

  50. SanFranciscoBay on April 12, 2023 at 3:21 pm

What’s the process once they remove the material from the Mine? I assume they would crush it into a fine rice size or flour state, then run it down a filter device where the heavy gold falls to the bottom early and the lighter rock moves downhill to become waste.
