In the video you’re not too far from an abandoned mine that is filled with old news papers. Stacked 3-6ft high and all from the 40-80

I feel a comment is needed here about something. First, I’m not making a comment for negative purposes. Just ethical and legal purposes. Since abandoned mines all pose at least some element of hazard to the general curious public, (not those with a specific hobby of exploring them), they know the hazards and can safely assess them and choose their actions accordingly. But I’m talking about the general curious inexperienced public. Digging out a naturally filled and inaccessible abandoned mine portal opens it to the general inexperienced public. Thus such persons could be injured or killed as a result. I personally wouldn’t want any action by me to result in such a misfortune to someone. My rule of thumb if I found a n inaccessible portal is to move on as there’s plenty of accessible ones to enter and explore and I can feel good about my actions. From a legal point, If I’m not mistaken , It’s illegal to dig in open or inside of any mine without having a mining claim on it. as per federal mining law. Not being negative, just expressing a point.

Another great video, Tom! I’m a little confused – is this the mine that I told you about that I had never been to but always wanted to go to in that one canyon? If it is that particular mine, I thought you told me that the entrance to that one was completely collapsed, a definite no-go, and one that you did not access. Maybe I mis-read your email. I’ll have to go back and look. Anyway, those were unusual load marks. It’s usually the dots that we’ve seen countless times. Great shot at 4:20 showing how the erosion plug forms and how it looks from inside the mine. I have been in a mine or two where the rock was kind of damp and wet like that and rather crumbly. Probably not the most stable material to dig a mine through, that’s for sure!

You should be glad you have a wife that will go do that with you,,, most of us do not.

6:31 "continuing on" into what appears to be a scene directly from a horror movie lol, I’m just waiting for two eyes to start glowing off in the distance someday from some inner earth monster ;p . . . you truly are fearless kind sir! I hike and explore the topographical side of our world oftentimes alone and in the dark, but this doesn’t phase me. I’ve gone spelunking before and it’s cool but definitely a little creepy to me, highly rewarding, as I’m a surveyor my mind goes to how can I map this out. I would explore here with someone like you without fear, but going at it alone would give me the willies. Great job Sir!

Do you guys have a mine gate key? Would you slip through a broken gate? [I might] There’s a fellow with a channel that has a mine key he’s used to video places. I don’t know why we all find this to be so fascinating but it just is. Not as much fun if there are no artifacts though.

Well, I loved the shorts, the gun and the shovel, nice accoutrements. Julie’s helmet looked nice and shiny. I noticed the dead end. Lol. Just teasing, LOL. I would say something about the soft and wet material and exploring the hole mine, but I won’t, LOL

Where can I find some of the mines around Vegas? I remember one up by Pahrump but it’s been years since my uncle showed me that one.

Whered you get he shovel Tom, it looks like it would do what I need it for?

  16. Pidasian Hippie on January 17, 2023 at 8:42 am

The things you won’t do to get to explore a mine. I hope those folks who made that shovel at least gave it to you for the excellent job you did showing what it is capable of. The only thing missing was opening a cold drink at the end of that trek with the bottle opener on it.

  18. Edie Ed on January 17, 2023 at 8:52 am

Can these be purchased and stocked with couple hundred ozs of silver and allowed to breathe on the surrounding lands for the purpose creating of weather and ultra high quality berries??? That’s all I’m trying to do asap. You’d get so much rain…..all year long even…..what’s the deal? Yo

Tom & Julie — Nice find & explore . On your little shovel is there a coarse-toothed saw blade in one of the handle sections? I have one very similar that I’ve carried in my truck for over 30 years & mine has a saw in the handle . Julie , don’t be afraid of a Bat , it’s just a flying Mouse . You’re not afraid of Mice are you ? — < Doc > .

Not a large mine but it looked like they had good deposits in it. But the last hundred feet were getting pretty rotten. Might be why they had to pull out of that one. They sure didn’t do much timbering by the looks of things! Thanks guys! I love watching your adventures!👍
