Forrest Fenn's Controversial Treasure Hunt | Dispatches From The Middle

In 2010, Forrest Fenn hid a treasure chest worth millions of dollars in the Rocky Mountains with only a few vague clues from his book, “The Thrill of the Chase.” In it, a poem drew a treasure map, pointing to its whereabouts. Thousands have attempted to find it, and some never returned.

The treasure was somewhere spanning the Rockies from New Mexico to Colorado and Wyoming. Fenn wanted to do this for “every redneck out there with a pickup truck, six kids who just lost his job, his wife and lacks adventure.”

After the book was published, his story went viral. Fenn’s hope was that the gold would inspire nature lovers to get outside, hike and enjoy outdoor adventures.

Fenn’s legacy does not come without controversy. He has been labeled plunderer of native lands and was asked to end the hunt after the deaths of at least 5 people, including Randy Bilyeu, Jeff Murphy, Pastor Paris Wallace, Eric Ashby and Michael Wayne Sexton.

10 years later, the treasure chest was found by an anonymous hiker called “The Finder.” In December 2020, after this video was published, 32-year-old Jack Stuef, a medical student from Michigan, was revealed to be “The Finder.”

So, was it a hoax? Does the mystery remain unsolved? Watch the FULL story, with an interview from Fenn himself. Albuquerque news anchor Shelby Cashman from @KOAT digs into the mystery of Forrest Fenn’s treasure.

This whole thing was fake. The family didn’t want to be sued when people keep dying looking for something that was never there. BULLSHIT!

Stitch or KOAT this is brent forrest john. I have a letter from forrest fenn because im the first one to pinpoint forrest fenns treasure. and In it he describes the real date of the treasure found. and the whole story on how i knew where the treasure was since 2015. multiple attemps my friends ruined the trips or my vehicle was recked or even broke down on 353 boulder. I was headed to pick up the chest several times and was forced to skip it or head back due to bad behavior from my company. But i have known the spot of forrest fenns treasure and and the very first one to pinpoint it. and i have the original letter that forrest fenn wrote me in 2019 because the treasure was actually found in 2019 he broadcasted it way too late, it wasn’t found in 2020 , it was found in 2019. . i have the proof. . write me back djferret07@gmail.com

someone who solved the riddle sued Fenn when he refused to admit it was solved. The treasure was always in Fenns Possession. you had to figure out the riddle to understand it. That is why Fenn refused to identify ther person who he claims found it. He just didnt want to give the treasure to the guy who really solved the riddle. There is court case about this so hopefully someone can find it and realize the truth.

two can keep a secret if one is dead (by ff).id like to know the in depth truth if this is so . ff is one that knows…now he is gone…and the finder knows…or is there someone behind all of this. did ff…pull the chest. and HAVE that one person fabricate a mystery finder. did..ff preplan to have the chest found or brought back to ff…himself…i believe ff knew he was dieing…and possibly could have had that one person go back and get the chest . that one person we may all know very well…….but who….? i also feel that the finders story. is well..a female that wrote it…and 3 people may have been involved in preplanning the chest being found….!
we may never know…unless that one person comes forward…!
the truth is out there. that person just needs to tell the truth so that the entire community can put this all to rest.! and that is when ff will rest in peace for ever…!!!!

To review the metaphorically constructed puzzle and corect answer you can go to the United States Federal District Court for the District of New Mexico and look up public records Case No. 19-CV-01174 Hanson v. Fenn Document filing #9 filed on December 20, 2019 titled Motion to Intervene as Defendant with Memorarndum of Support and read the 20 page filing which outlines step by step the actual solve. No actual treasure was ever hidden but rather metaphorically.

hi. I wrote a little book about. finding the treasure. I went once myself only made it halfway. I wonder if the guy who found it (if he’s real) used my book? I know just another but right? well I found the general area but as I said only made it halfway my health stopped me. however just for kicks I’m not going through the whole thing, their was a ranger named brown etc. but it was in fact I’m Yellowstone park Wyoming. I noticed the. finder admitted that much Wyoming and he may have mentioned Cody way. anyway, don’t have notes with me but you started at soda Butte walked a trail past bison for 3-4 miles till you came to cache Creek. this is the main clue that I believe was missed by almost all. it was something the clue like to a place that hints of treasure both old and new. the new was the cache was there and the hints of old was the name of the creek itself cache Creek double entendre. so continue up the creek and have a stout heart or something this is because of the big mountain, the thunderer. opposite the thunderer was a creek coming down, to the right very noticeable from the bottom of the creek, as far as I got. in this white water cascade would have been the treasure. Hey finder if you read my book how about a little finder’s fee. it was the Fenn treasure and how to find it. Amazon Kindle. btw one of the reasons he’s keeping quiet is that Yellowstone is on fed land. but yeah I gave it my best but the body wouldn’t comply. frustrating yeah because I knew it was there. any comments—-be nice.

  17. In My Opinion on January 16, 2023 at 10:15 am

We searchers analyzed every word Fenn ever said and in the end the finder found it due to a Fenn slipup in interview that other searchers didn’t catch. In the end they found it by knowing the place Fenn wanted to die and took it from there. My solve didn’t take me to Wyoming but it should have. In 2011 or 2012 the first thing I did was research tax laws in all four states. Wyoming had the easier tax laws on finds. Forrest was pissed off at the government over the four corners raids and in my opinion this chase was his little way of revenge by someone getting a multi million dollar treasure tax free.

  18. joe john on January 16, 2023 at 10:16 am

I’m sure the greatest part of the Chase is yet to come forth, someone figured out where and how that seems to be the greatest mystery, I’m looking forward to the reveal soon of what Forrest did to create such a Chase.
