Found a massive Spanish treasure
Willie Doughit found a massive Spanish treasure and even though he was captured and tortured he never told anyone where it was, at least they never lived to tell about it. Mike McChesney shares with us the story about the massive Spanish treasure that was found in the Caballo mountains of New Mexico. Mike was gracious enough to share this story with us while we were at the 18th annual Dutch Hunters Rendezvous at the Don’s camp near Apache Junction Arizona. I am a bit confused about whether this is the same cave of gold Doc Noss found on Victorio Peak? That gold is supposedly long gone. But if this story is about a different location for a different cache of gold bars then what is this lost treasure called or does it not have a name?

I enjoy mike’s threads in Treasurenet he is always pretty straight in his opinions about Caballo but there are other variations, but who knows for sure. If it’s true why hasn’t it been found yet. It’s all just talk until someone proves someone wrong. Maybe we will see someday. Thanks Terry and Mike enjoy fellas.

I haven’t talked to Mike in forever. I gave up treasure net along time ago. I think this story is another facet of the Doc Noss story. If i remember right somehow the FBI got involved after someone’s death and found buried gold bars in his back yard.
Mike is great. That’s a lot to cover just from memory. 10:22 – Not Victorio Peak – the hill by Gordon’s Cabin / Granite Spring (just south of mouth of Burbank canyon). A folklorist documented this event, and I also heard about it from locals (who were kids at the time) about 15 years ago. 10:54 – "Skinny Kid" was maybe Willie Strom? Makes more sense that he just found their temporary stash at Smoke Hole; there’s no way they would have drug a body back into the original deposit location (which is highly unlikely to be on Granite Peak itself!), they would have got rid of it some other way. 11:26 – There are indications that they or Noss stored bars temporarily in places nearby other than the smoke hole ("twisted wire"). 11:33 – Again, may be Willie Strom. 12:10 – This description is mostly consistent with some personal letters from the 1930’s I have seen, though, the description is incomplete, 11:49 – the Louris couple and the Heberer couple; their car was recovered in Texas and their burned belongings were recovered on the West mesa outside ABQ – a skull with red hair found north of Burbank about 5 canyons may have been from one of the victims, 14:40 – Willie talked about the body of the Padre in the cave.
