Gold digging in NH. Panning on the wild ammonoosuc. Big nugget found

Gold digging in NH. Panning on the wild ammonoosuc. Big nugget found

We originally set out to meet the Green Mountain Prostpectors of VT club up on the wild ammonoosuc. I headed up early to take advantage of some time off and do some prospecting. The forecast turned dim as a tropical storm was making its way up the east coast and was due to hit on the day of the club dig. So we had moved our group to Friday. Tim, Dylan and I were digging in the heat when Robbie decided to swing by and say. You will have to watch the video to see what happens.

I did use the minlab pan and classifier the whole weekend and i really like them both. The classifier works better than expected even though it doesn’t sit down into the bucket as much as I would like. The gold seems to pop pretty well against the blue especially in the sun. I would recommend this kit if you are a beginner looking for something to start with or if you are a bit more seasoned, they sell the pan and classifier separately. It doesn’t have a bunch of stuff in it that you would never use.

Twin River campground was nice. My site was very big and easy to back into. The bathrooms were very clean and just renovated. The people were friendly and it was fun to see all the four wheelers and side by sides around as there are trails right by the campground. I would definitely stay there again. As a matter of fact, I am going to go back probably in September.

We never did meet up with anyone from GMPVT. The weather turned out to quite nice on Saturday and it only rained for a couple of minutes.

Rewatching this video 📹 those minelab kits are nice I got one on my sponsorship and used it out in cal definitely nice but the bucket thing is a bummer. They do fit very nice in a mason bucket find those at tractor supply store.
They did the road repair out of the river along pinney hollow in VT also "there was gold on the hill" I’m wondering if that’s how Robbies nug got to where it was its kind of the only way it could have been placed where and how it was.

I was told by the Ranger that we weren’t allowed to use sluice boxes so I’m just curious is that we can’t use sluice boxes in State Property but we can in private can you let me know please

Why don’t you classify into the pan since they fit together then dump in the bucket? Or take the classifier to the store and get a container that it fits down into so it fits down and the water covers it.

WOW that was the kind of nugget that are hard to find out west. You usually find three gram nuggets once in a lifetime. All I can say is WOW and congratulations Robby.

Judging by the shape of that nugget and it being nearly Crystaline…I’m guessing the source is with in a mile up stream

Thanks for the vid! I can’t wait to take my kids. Been doing some research on mineral mining in NH.

  26. @richiesun9676 on December 21, 2023 at 8:48 am

I made it up there over the weekend! The rocks are tough to navigate. It was slow going. We were at a campground and a part of the river that is well prospected. Next time, I’ll try and find some streams out of the way.

It’s a shame that the trout habitat is being destroyed by gold hunters
