Losing that garnet would have spoilt my day. I hate losing stuff. I’d rather give away £100 than lose a £1 coin, so it’s not the value that bugs me. I would still be digging back there where you dropped it.😁 It certainly looked like a fun way to spend the day and it’s a nice wee change from the detecting, for you *and* us.👍

I live 5 miles from Bartons mines in the Adirondacks, one of the biggest garnett mines in the country

The gold bug will bite you careful! My buddy and I are hoping to get several grams this weekend. Purchase pay dirt or pan smashed shot gun pellets. There is a skill to panning! Also take a look at the banjo pan while in the river it works awesome! Also the real gold is the friends you make!

No more Brookies in that stream.

Keep your eyes pealed for amethyst, and many other crystals. Jet, tormaline, rutilated quartz! I can’t wait for warmer weather to get back to rockhounding here in Vermont.

  16. Jillian Blesser on August 17, 2022 at 9:21 pm

    Garnets are crystals 😉

  23. tinman 926 on August 17, 2022 at 9:32 pm

I can name all the rivers that are gold bearing in VERMONT. I have been doing this since the mid 80’s I have found gold at all of them!!

  24. Nita Huncke on August 17, 2022 at 9:33 pm

I saw a video where you threw back tiny garnets. My birthstone is garnet. I want to buy some of your garnets that you usually throw away. I have some tiny clear bottles with cork stoppers. I want to make window sparklers like stain glass in bottles. Please sell me flawed and tiny ones.

  25. Lee Barker on August 17, 2022 at 9:33 pm

You should camp there and pan all day

  26. 76 Guzzi on August 17, 2022 at 9:33 pm

  27. Tony Hemingway on August 17, 2022 at 9:36 pm

When you lost your garnet, it reminded me of Gollum, when he lost the ring. Preciousss.

  28. tinman 926 on August 17, 2022 at 9:37 pm

    Just different qualities!!

  29. stephen farrell on August 17, 2022 at 9:37 pm

i have a spot that has some serious potential in vermont. ive panned maybe 15 yards and got 1.2grams. and vermont only produces 23.5 karat gold so its top dollar gold

  30. David Raines on August 17, 2022 at 9:39 pm

Buddy gold panning looks to be more fun than profitable and the garnets were cool also. The next time I make it up to Vermont I’ll try to pan a little gold and garnets. I would rather metal detect there I have a couple friends that own big farms. Great video

  31. Gorron on August 17, 2022 at 9:39 pm

you ever pan around the route 100 byway? looks like a lot of good spots there.

  32. scott Hardy on August 17, 2022 at 9:40 pm

You should make panning vids more often

  33. tinman 926 on August 17, 2022 at 9:44 pm

    They are crystal

  34. Mike McInroe on August 17, 2022 at 9:45 pm

  35. Ronald Petetsen on August 17, 2022 at 9:45 pm

Here in Alaska, if we can pick it out of the pan, we call those baby Nugs “pickers” and the bring a little bit more when you sell as many pieces of jewelry are made from them….. The fines and such are smelted down into ingots. Nice day on the Creek you guys had, good times👍. And thanks for sharing!!

Your garnet just needed to go back and grow some more. It’s all good.

  38. J Rods on August 17, 2022 at 9:49 pm

So what did you say the GPS coordinates are sir? 😂

  39. Randy Lunn on August 17, 2022 at 9:49 pm

Awesome video. Very exciting. In the early 1970’s I panned gold near the headwaters of the Connecticut River near the Connecticut Lakes in New Hampshire. Hard work but thrilling.

  40. Susan B on August 17, 2022 at 9:50 pm

Love your choice of music. Can’t say I envy you driving home in wet underwear.

Do you really understand the geology of what your looking at? Just asking. Doesn’t seem that is your specialty.

  45. Da Da on August 17, 2022 at 9:53 pm

  47. vtgoldprospector on August 17, 2022 at 9:56 pm

I know where to go for garnet all day up there.. Car sized boulders that are polka-dotted with so many and only 1/2 mile walk from the road. I love exploring VT!!!!

  48. Decker Lent on August 17, 2022 at 9:57 pm

On my way there now to do some prospecting. Wish me luck.

  49. Ken Arnold on August 17, 2022 at 9:57 pm

We’ve got old abandoned Garnet mines here in the NC mountains. Historically, Garnet was mined to make sand paper. This practice went away with the introduction of Using aluminum oxide or silicon carbide. Sand and glass were also sometimes used. They come in different sizes, and can be regular old garnet, or gem quality.

  50. David Geier on August 17, 2022 at 9:58 pm

    Gosh Garnet!!
