Hey Kevin,Thanks for the video… Gold’s always where you find it, and never where you don’t… Ha. Even in Illinois you can find a little fine glacial gold. When I was stationed at Scott AFB, near East St. Louis, I’d drive 6+ hours to central Indiana and pan & sluice on Salt Creek, find some fine glacial gold there in the middle of their glacial moraine belt. Liked the gold, hated the drive over/back. Hey, love your dime! I have a similar 1943-S Mercury dime I too normally use as my size reference. Cool. Randy C-17A
My grandfather told me when I was a child (i’m 72 now) that my grandmother’s relatives panned for gold on Range Creek, a tributary of the Embrassas River, just south of Greenup, Illinois. My grandfather said that they panned enough gold to pay for a small plot of farmland. Grandad never told me exactly where they panned for gold, but I suspect it must have been at the confluence of the Range Creek and the Embrassas.
Man, I might go out to a few local lakes, creeks, and gives and see if I can find any. I’m not interested in making money of of it but it looks like fun.
I’m in Rockford illinois right now and has anyone found some gold in or around the Rockford area as I’ve moved from Rogers city Michigan a year ago. Any help from you guys would be appreciated, thank you 👍
