Just a curiosity, with all that gold upstate did and of it make it all the way down here?
So I run a run a samples, just to check out the mineralogy, see how bad things are…and well…it’s bad…still not sure what the silver mineral is, some form of a pyrite? I dunno…just a little fun with gold panning.
I always appreciate your videos
the next vid shows some highly magnified images, it’s a translucent mineral with an odd luster, just looked silvery on black pan as it tumbled in the water refractions, like muscovite can sometimes have a silvery sheen. Similar tabular habit. I haven’t seen any large amounts of mercury, a few small possible globs, tiny shit.
the beer helps 🙂 check out my page Matt Poko
hi jim. would you ever come to england metal detecting? like chicargoron does
hey bud i do alot of work in old houses in detroit and your pin point the sink traps really pays off once in awhile good one bro!!
Hey Brother where’s a good place to look for gold in Grenville S.C
The problem is gas prices…Back when I lived in Denver it was cheap to go up US 6 every weekend, Clear Creek was awesome.
Paint Creek, Ross County, Scito river, Mohawk river, Cocosing river…to name a few. Small flour a little bit of very small flake. Check out ODNR geology website, some good info there.
I think there is more chance of color in the beer Jim. But good luck to you anyhow.
take a good pic of it and send it to ghosttownhunter he seems to know his minerals pretty good. or ask him to take a look at your vid. I would be very interested to know what it is. Please do a follow vid on it when you find out. oh and gth is a certified ase mechanic maybe you could ask about the car as well lol looking for to more vids of you panning..
just watched ur video of panning sand and where I’m panning in dry creek here in Sacramento Ca there’s a lot of sand too and it’s frustrating wondering if I Wil find any gold in here , maybe down stream but I will keep in touch and let you know if I find any sand gold here.
It’s probably Platinum.
I live in pickens sc.all the gold here is usually attached to mercury….thats what you got…mercury
I just finished a vid with super close ups of the minerals…I’m a little more encouraged by what I saw. The silvery stuff isn’t metallic at all, just the way the light shimmers off a particular mineral.
did he say organic? btw your scary
Good to see you Jim! What happened to that H2O pump Chrysler?? Great idea about the down river possibilities. You never know. Take care. W.
Hey guys, check out my new video about gold panning in switzerland..
Dam the gold panning I say we drink more beer
In general yes, but you wouldn’t pan a site all day normally…you’d use a slice or dredge and simply pan down the final product. A pan is also nice for quick sampling without carrying around a lot of gear.
you keep splashing that dirty water into your beer and it is making me cringe.
The silvery mineral is zircon.
Love garnat sand here in Iowa a lot mre aboundant than gold.A little trick is to add some dish soap to your water to break the water tention so your real fine gold wont float.
good luck w the search for gold
I would love too! Jealous over the Roman stuff the guys get to dig over there.
great video brother. love the icehouse let me know when you find out what the silver stuff is got my curious. GOD BLESS
Interesting. I hope you find some gold and garnets. I am in NW PA and my sister lives in Ohio. I wonder what is in the creeks here? I wouldn’t know where to look. lol
I like the video and hope it gets better for ya!
GL & HH!
Chris
I’m thinkin some variety of pyrite, it’s drying out now so I can do some testing on it soon. There is also a very fine jet black, non-magnetic mineral mixed in, my guess is ilmenite. But you gotta admit, the bottom of the pan being silver, not jet black is damn strange, I’ve at least never seen anything like it before.
yeah, I’ve seen a vid about that and it may be true, but that gold also may have come from his equipment…tiny amounts that were stuck in his machine that came free running 150 pounds of play sand. The vid wasn’t very clear on how he prepped the machine for the test.
It’s a hardship, but I’ll go check 🙂
sample the black sand if any at those beaches.
Pulse PI status?
buy a bag of quickeret ? sand from california, pan the sand,
Places like Ohio have gold dragged down from Canada by glaciers, several hundred miles or more…so all this sand came from SOMEWHERE…mostly an eroding mountain range the west of us, what’s currently known at the gold area…so just a curiosity, did any of the right material wind up down here too.
Thanks for url and the info. Jim.Gas money is always a factor for me too. that beer looks STRONG and tasty!
Cheers and HH!
Chris
well, at least you know where the gold is not… My daddy always said, you can’t find where something is until you know everywhere it’s not… Just a clever way of saying "keep looking dumb ass" now that I think about it. Good luck Jim.
What happen to the car that water pump video????????????
hey man, you’re right. the stuff in your pan was silver. yeah quicksilver.mercury. that’s why it broke in little balls. that’s toxic stuff. you definitely don’t want to breathe vapors off it. better have another beer
This was actually more about the mineralogy than gold, the process of panning is simply sorting material by density, just so happens it works well to find free gold as well. 🙂 This kind of gives me a baseline to compare other sand sites too…I have geologic maps that show the types and ages of the sands around here, so I have a better idea where to sample next.
hey jim I was reading in a gold panning magazine that has that gold fever show that a guy went to home depot or lowes or walmart some store and seen the bags of sand they have out for gardens and sand boxes for sale in the 50 lb bags some of it had black sand in it and he bought all the ones he seen that looked good and got gold out of them and still got some out of some other bags you might want to sample a bag of play sand and see what you get he goy mostly dust but some very small nuggets too
That gold panning looks like more work than metal detecting. Good job explaining what you are looking for and looking at Jim. HH
considering replacing engine or selling as scrap. Because I know the problems run deeper than the pump…
