If I had the funds I’d purchase that fuel station and general store and create a wonderful mini museum and BnB.

A lot of the little desolate places depict just how much America has changed over the last 50 years. I remember going through some of these towns back in the mid 60s and they were small but vibrant centers for farmers and locals. Now, much of the farming has been consumed by large conglomerates that ship in their supplies, and current generations have left for bigger cities with better employment possibilities, basically leaving only an outline of history remaining.

just one note,,,when you watch a train go by, always film and watch the train facing from the front of the train, to the rear of the train. Just in case, if your watching towards the rear,,,,and ‘something’ is ‘wrong’ with the train,,,,you would see some ‘dust’ ect. that would , or might warn you that something is wrong and you should evacuate your location. ( You just never know !)

I love taking the backroads but don’t always have the time to take the long route. Thank you for taking the time so that we can enjoy these side adventures!

  36. John Dreker on January 26, 2023 at 9:56 am

That coffee place in Hot Coffee really missed an opportunity to make money by not having a website. They had no idea that nearly 700,000 people would see their place in the next year. Even if one out of every 1,000 people wanted something from their shop, they lost 700 potential customers. I just saw this video for the first time today and was ready to buy stuff for my dad, a coffee fanatic. When I couldn’t find a website, I told him about the place and he wanted something from the store.

I googled the Farmhouse at Transylvania and it’s back in business. Looks like there is a new owner who reopened the place last year.

  39. E626-361 on January 26, 2023 at 10:00 am

I’ve traveled up and down hwy 65 through Transylvania my entire life, I’ve been at the school a few times back when it was open. One time they thought I was the new kid and gave me a whole tour before anyone realized. Lots of memories. Supposedly there’s some old Indian burial grounds near there. It’s so sad to see everything in disarray. The school is now for up for sale if anyone is willing to restore it.
