History of Georgetown, South Carolina
South Carolina’s third oldest city, Georgetown was a “port of entry” in the 1700s, allowing foreign boats into its harbor to dramatically increase its prosperity. In the 1800s, the city’s economic success rested upon its rice plantations, while the 1900s saw it blossom with the evolution of its lumber industry. Today it remains a historic waterfront town just miles away from Charleston.
Georgetown is a wonderful place to live and visit, the people are warm and friendly ,best place on earth.
Thanks for this. My great-great grandfather, John Toomey or Tumy was an engineer at the Atlantic Coast Lumber Company. Is there a history of that company available?
Stank ass paper mill!
My great, great grandfather was Col. Daniel Jordan. He owned the “Laurel Hill” rice plantation outside of Georgetown on the Waccamaw River.
I need to visit the Rice museum.
Georgetown sucks
yo anybody hate Georgetown fuck em I was born and raised here
Thank the good Lord for rice. A staple that is delicious. My favorite carb! Growing up rice was cooked daily in our country home. Georgetown is a beautiful city, has much history, and the paper mill may smell but it is a ham and honey smell to those who live in Georgetown. Have family there and they love the city, and so do I.
This is world history for yo ass!! lol so Georgetown is the coolest!
Good Ole’ Georgetown, many things have changed but I visit family from time to time. It’s nice to get away and be peaceful down there.
Georgetown slurps the gay out of Michael Jackson’s dead ass.
Just got back from a Vacation in Myrtle Beach, we did visit Georgetown and it is a nice town. I enjoyed it!. The only thing that I don’t like about the town is that the smell from the Paper factory reeks. Besides that its a great town and I enjoyed my visit!
The county seat of Georgetown County and also home of the Tidelands of South Carolina.
I love the accent of people from georgetown and the creole and southern cultures combined in everything

Is it safe to say that Georgetown was developed after Charleston and Beaufort? But has the states oldest paper?
