I would have melted it all down, made a bunch of metallic "bookmarks" out of them, bought a bunch of Bibles to put them in and brought them all to Thailand or some other country to sell.

Here’s the difference, in the US, you get to keep what you find, as long as you are fair with your partners. Everywhere else, you are subject to the government because you have no rights.

  21. @Luke-xx1ri on December 20, 2023 at 9:49 am

Australia is still under the English crown hence both countries take the declaration of treasure finds.why would you bother to declare it at all.melt it down sell it or smuggle it and move to a neutral country

  22. @ScripticMind on December 20, 2023 at 9:49 am

Screw museums. If they want something they need to pay for it. This story is why you don’t tell anyone.

    Go straight to another country

  26. @mazdarx7887 on December 20, 2023 at 9:54 am

It’s bullshit, It belongs to the person who finds it. Did the government go find it? Did they give support when asked? Everybody thought it was a pipe dream until it’s found, then they all want a part.

  27. @songmanl1480 on December 20, 2023 at 9:54 am

Kind of what the United States government does all the time with taxpayers money!

  28. @SovereignStatesman on December 20, 2023 at 9:57 am

The guy was a fool, it was gold, and completely untraceable for that reason. He could’ve melted it down and just sold it.

  29. @brendotheoffendo on December 20, 2023 at 9:57 am

I’ll take things that didn’t happen for $500 Alex.
The Australian guy knew where a Spanish wreck was, correct. But he found an engraved ‘postal stone’. A similar postal stone was found in Cape Town, South Africa, left by Portuguese Captain Cristovao de Mendonca 1524. There is also a very detailed map of Sydney Cove in The Los Angeles Library Vault. The map belonged to Mendonca. This rewrites Australian history. It wasn’t just the Dutch, who came and left thinking the Indigenous were giants and the Chinese who regularly traded with the Indigenous. The Portuguese also came long before the British expedition and Cook ‘discovered’ Australia, who actually just mapped the east coast of Australia.

  31. @calmvibes9392 on December 20, 2023 at 9:59 am

Does anyone know who the treasure hunter is? I wonder what he is doing now.

  32. @countrystoreMN on December 20, 2023 at 10:01 am

Who’s inscription is on the coins will claim them.
Tommy Thompson’s is the guy he’s talking about, been in jail for five years because he refuses to disclose the whereabouts of the coins. Again who’s inscription is on them.

  33. @MogusMasterSaikawa22 on December 20, 2023 at 10:01 am

    government is trash

  34. @crypto_kation4375 on December 20, 2023 at 10:02 am

Pay the guy the 10 million its worth and than tax the 10 million. Government still wins. Got 10 million dollars worth of gold in a museum plus 3 – 4 million in taxes it wasn’t expecting. Out nothing and gained 3 – 4 million in taxes.

  35. @israelchavez6324 on December 20, 2023 at 10:06 am

  42. @bobbyjames9847 on December 20, 2023 at 10:18 am

When you find something you keep it you don’t turn it in

  43. @dmitritelvanni4068 on December 20, 2023 at 10:20 am

The rules are pretty clear actually. Thievery is illegal. Therefore the government is committing (yet another) crime. Paint it how you wish that’s what’s happening at the crux of it.

  47. @twitchcoolbob66 on December 20, 2023 at 10:28 am

So legally Most treasures From wrecks are not yours. Under maritime law, and Most countries have a law about treasure, its either you can keep some of it, or it becomes state own because the original owner is dead, or you get taxes part of its worth or etc. Look them up before you go treasure hunting.

  48. @saucesgalore on December 20, 2023 at 10:29 am

    Store up treasure in Heaven

  49. @wholewheatkittyfeet9353 on December 20, 2023 at 10:29 am

Ok the second guy befruaded people. He needs to stay in jail. But the first guy… he needed to have lied and fled the country. Melted down half of the treasure and sell it I little bits at random places.

  50. @moralester on December 20, 2023 at 10:29 am

This is what has been wrecking havoc on my mental lately… How can all these powerful entities like governments and corporations keep committing grave injustices with no repercussion? How am I supposed to cope with this s*?
