FBI won’t say why it was poking around a remote site north of Pittsburgh in Elks County, but local lore has it that Civil War-era gold was lost or hidden there in 1863 on its way to the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. I read about this gold in 2010, and ended up using the my first novel! At the time, the search was concentrated farther east, closer to where I set my book, Rightfully Ours, in Williamsport, PA. Fascinating story. I’d love to see the gold recovered.
