Every break in the world is missing it’s hierarchy these days, without a clear hierarchical structure these incidents are a lot more frequent, any old local now thinks they can act like this a-hole…..used to work great when there was a strong local contingent, showing newbies how not to be kooks and how to stay out of danger ,now everyone thinks they have a right to turn up to any lineup with their pointy missiles and have equal share , it doesn’t work like that, people will die and the litigation will ruin surfing for everyone.. you have to earn your place in the lineup, just like us old fuckers used to have to.
To be fair, if I lived in a place and everyone came to surf it I’d be a bit irritated and not want more to keep coming and make the issue worse. I used to hate all localism, but reflecting a bit on it, there are some good reasons. Same is true when rich people ruin areas by crushing the local scene and putting McMansions everywhere ruining the culture (Hawaii?). Is there a way to keep a spot from getting ruined like Malibu without some aggressive tactics like this? I don’t know. These tactics do work , a few spots in San Diego are regulated this way and it does work. You’ve got to earn your spot there over time and respect from the locals. This prevents kooks from ruining it or good surfers coming in and dominating , they don’t really care if you’re good or not. I’ve heard Hawaii does this in a lot of spots. A lot of local pros on YouTube talk about it and why it’s needed. Is Bali different ?
There’s a lot of non local dicks that ruin a spot if not checked. Just let it go and ask if everything is OK. You might make a friend rather than an enemy. Also be kind on land and in the water.
This new generation of surfers is trying to change the rules because they can’t be bothered to be humble or learn respect. It wasn’t your turn and why post this you are just part of the problem of newbies trying to cheat the curve; take your lickings and go home. Just because you get a 100 waves at your home break doesn’t mean you can get waves when you travel
I’m a beginner, tried surfing baby waves and this professional got so mad at me when I panicked and fell when he was next to me. They told me to get the fuck out. I don’t even know where to surf to try and learn because everybody is so adamant about the right of way that I never even get a chance to try the waves

Seems like he looked everywhere except at the guy who was paddling right next to and in front of him..I mean I cant blame him, would be hard to just glance at that chick in green.
My sister had this happen, except the girl kicked the board into her head and split it open. She nearly drowned and went to the ER with a concussion. Some of these people are capable of murder.
I hate it when people do that cuz like they don’t even care about their own board at that point. That’s how fins break, boards ding and people get hurt
