I was going to go gold hunting, but new york is hard to due, any gold or precious metal that comes from the ground is the property of the great state of new York. New York is hard to detect legally, Temporary Revocable Permit (TRP) , liability insurance on top of that, filing fees, where and when have to be accurate . Then if you don’t have everything, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will write you a ticket and take away your metal detector until you pay off your ticket. And some places will only keep low value items under 20 dollar in value. That just dec, then if you want to dedect in state parks you have to go through them for a permit too.
