Metal Detecting Extinct Ghost Town in Kansas Day 1

Metal Detecting Extinct Ghost Town in Kansas Day 1

Visit our website at www.highplainsprospectors.com for more blogs, videos, and great deals on metal detecting and gold prospecting supplies!

We have been anticipating metal detecting this site for a few years now. We know it has been detected by other people pretty heavily over the years and by good metal detectorists. But this site is proof that they rarely get it all.
This video is about an hour of hunting on day one.

Here we are metal detecting a site of an old ghost town that, in the early to mid 1800’s, hosted a post office, hotel, brothel, horse race track, and casino. It was heavily frequented to those headed west for the gold rush as well as civil war soldiers, outlaws, and any other wayward ruffian that passed through the area. At one time the old town had around 450 inhabitants.

We had about an hour to detect on this day and found a few really interesting and historic finds. Some we got on video, some we didn’t. We’ve done quite a bit of research on this old town. It has been really fun so far. Stay tuned for additional videos on this metal detecting site!

Would love it if you would come to my little cafe in Oskaloosa so we could sit down and compare notes on sites here in Jefferson County. I believe we have the oldest settlement in Kansas but if you found one earlier I would like to know more
