People Kept Going Missing | The Abandoned Village of Portlock, Alaska

Sometime around the year 1900, a small cannery town was established at Portlock, Alaska. By 1949, the only resident who remained was the post master. Not only that, but it appears that the entire town simply up and left all at once. Portlock, essentially overnight, was completely abandoned. The question is why? Some have suggested an “Alaskan Killer Bigfoot”, others simple economic factors. So, what’s the truth behind this ghost town? Welcome back to The Lore Lodge…

A good dead center shot from any big game rifle drops them like a sack of taters, everything else is a myth.

Damn. I was actually just going to buy three of these desks for my tattoo studio, and I went to follow the link, or get your code, and I saw that the US gets 50% off, but Canada gets $50 off… Yeah, no. Not supporting that company. I’m super disappointed, I was really, really looking forward to it.

Nicely done. You presented a very balanced, non-sensationalized version of a real mystery that merits more serious investigation. So many of the stories about Portlock are anecdotal, with little hard evidence to support them. Something very strange took place there, no doubt. Just what, exactly, remains elusive.

Well there was a terrifying bigfoot-like creature known as Nantinaq that chased them out!

  12. Pagan Shredhead on April 3, 2023 at 1:13 pm

I don’t really get your insistence on ‘not believing in Bigfoot’, then just inventing a wild man story that describes Bigfoot to a t. Do you know what European sailors called great apes at the coasts of Africa when they first saw them? Wild. Men. It seems you invent an argument nobody’s making, namely Bigfoot being an animal, then trying to defeat that nonexistent argument. Nobody says Bigfoot has no intelligence or that he is not related to the Homo genus. Completely irrelevant.

Native American legends include references to extinct species like mammoth, elephant and giant sloths. There is reference to tiny humanoids who may correlate to the same species as found on Flores in Indonesia; called pukwudgie in Algonquin. I remain up in the air about Bigfoot still being an actual living species, but it is possible. Exploring folklore is something I really enjoy.

Sasquatch isn’t a mith anymore it’s simply another coverup from the American government i have no clue why probably preservation of species and widespread fear of national forest but they are real and if you think they aren’t you should do some research yourself and figure it out instead of taking that blue pill like all the other sheep

The funny thing about that feeling of being watched is that you feel that way because you’ve already seen what’s watching you.

The truth is peoples’ fears are often more dominating than their logic. It’s not Bigfoot, people just believe cause they want to.

31 People leaving at once doesn’t sound very impressive. This amount wouldn’t even be able to prevent incest if they don’t find partners elsewhere. Heck, I think I could get to that number if I count my relatives up to my parent’s generation (My family alone are already 6 people + my sisters partner. I have 7 uncles and aunts who almost all are in relationships and have at least 1 or 2 children, some of which are old enough to have partners of their own. With that I almost have the 31 people).

I could listen to bubbles American cousin talk about samsquanch all day.

  26. Robbie Starburster on April 3, 2023 at 1:27 pm

I think with a case like this the stories themselves may have been the catalyst for people leaving. Small communities accentuate supersition.

Okay, y’all got me with a couple of the Alaskan Names, but in Louisiana we have some as well: NATCHITOCHES While it looks like Nat-chi-toe-chez, its actually pronounced Nak-O-Tish (1st syllable stressed)

  30. godAlseif on April 3, 2023 at 1:29 pm

composite theory. the tales of giants down south and slightly later a little further north might suggest a migration, plus its not unreasonable to think a humanlike species would adapt to a colder climate by becoming hairier over many generations. the Alaskan bigfoot is just the descendants of the giants who were once driven out of their homeland in meso or central america by the human tribes who invaded from beneath the earth. because why take one theory when you can take them all

If you live or traveling in America. This is no BS!!! You come across a partially hairy beast. DO NOT make eye contact!! The people that communicated has neverending nightmares for life. This beast is my mother-in-law. Many took for granted she is harmless. Many went insane! If you see her, run and don’t stop. If she chasing you down. Play any UC Basketball game on your phone. Then leave your phone behind and she will stop to watch the game. That’s your only escape. Good luck if she spots you first.

    It was Canada.

Russia sold Northern California to Washington State. That’s why there’s the Russian river in Northern California.

    Get your history straight.

If Sasquatch are considered human by a US government then you have to think about rights and then the laws… And then the logging companies have to worry about whether or not they are intruding on someone’s land or other situations like should they be a protected species… So it’s really hard to figure out what to do. How should we think about these beings …as a tribe of people or an animal with the intelligence of a human? It’s not a simple choice..

This was a fun but weird video to watch. I live in Kenai, which is only a couple hours away from Portlock. In fact, I’m considering moving to Seldovia, which is just 20 minutes north of Portlock. If I do, I’ll definitely be hanging bells in all of my trees!

The sponsor ad was so well done that I’m honestly curious about the desk. Most other YouTube channels I watch make ads so mundane and I skip past them. Yours made me actually listen to the whole thing as how well you made the ad interesting .

I don’t know. Why do you think a show called Alaskan Killer Bigfoot would lie?

It is exactly what it says on the tin.

Lore Lodge. Now that sounds untrustworthy. Like the kind of show that would present its own made up myths about a Slavic god of darkness mixed with an Irish Druid’s ceremonial costume.

I mean, doing that would just shoot your credibility’s foot right off forever. No matter how big a foot it was…

  46. Nate Cloe on April 3, 2023 at 1:47 pm
