It occurs to me Loy (probably from reading Louis L"Amour Western novels over the years) that the gold stash of the miner may have been placed an acre away from his tent for a reason. Namely, if a miner or prospector were to be robbed at their tent, they could hope to recover their main finds later at a separate hiding spot.
