What you said about it maybe coming from the road sand is plausible. There was a video I saw a long long time ago where a guy bought bags of white quartz sand from home depot and panned it all out. He found that there was respectable amounts of gold in the sand. Not enough to make it profitable, but there were consistent amounts of it within the bags of sand.
