Almost all those gems and metals were stolen from the colonial lands of the Far East, so the graves are those of the agents of a thieving, murdering gang. So yeah, steal ’em again, the original owners are half a millennium dead.

My grandad wrote in his will to his children and grandchildren: "Earth’s gold is heaven’s mold." As I get older, it becomes more and more obvious to me, that for someone to get rich and wealthy, someone else becomes starving poor. Sad facts of life.

  3. @hunter5369 on December 23, 2023 at 8:12 am

The British have always worked alongside criminals to stay in power stealing and pillaging all over the globe that Si called Royal family is to blame for most of it and now Americans do the same ie: US working with Isis to pillage Syria

  4. @samcavanagh7993 on December 23, 2023 at 8:13 am

What’s the point of not allowing the ship to be reclaimed? Those gems and gold pieces came from india anyway, they should be returned to where they came from.

I just hope you know that as a Portuguese who wants to visit Açores since pretty much my entire life, these collection of videos as made me love the arquipélago even more.
Your videos are amazingly written and the images you’ve collected from its people and landscapes really make them even better, keep up the good work, I just wish some of "my people" were as interested and invested in these stories as you are!

I’ve always wondered what the age was that makes something a ancient archeological find that is acceptable to display in a museum such as dead bodies like but definitely not limited to mummies.. like is it not extremely messed up to go digging in tombs/graves taking their body and all their shit than shipping it off to some other location to display to thousands of people a day 🤦🏻 like at what year in will it be acceptable to do the same to Abraham Lincoln or George Washington or someone else like that? There has to be an actual date that it would become fair game, no?

These treasures don’t belong to these Portuguese anyways but rather belongs to all the nations and continents they killed and stole from. The treasures belong to Africans Indians Indonesians and all the countries these foreigners killed, enslaved and stole from

If only we could develop gills and pressure resistance 🤔

  10. @levilam522 on December 23, 2023 at 8:20 am

So… where is it you think the Portuguese got the treasure? They in fact took it from others…. like pirates themselves, they certainly didn’t go dig mines….

  11. @PapaW-NI on December 23, 2023 at 8:22 am

Its an interesting one, Can the story/memory be told better if there is a physical object to tell them around (in museum setting) ?

  13. @zacharylorentz5229 on December 23, 2023 at 8:24 am

If any money was made extracting colonial gold from the bottom of the ocean, it should probably go back to the descendents of those who had to mine it

I do not trust the official story at all. It would be a fortune for everyone on board. Serf peasants from medieval Portugal had zero patriotic allegiance to the Royalty. That Gold likely never left the Azores, they unloaded it overnight and distributed it among themselves. How else has the island chain maintained itself over the centuries without unlimited stores of Gold, strategically stolen from specific ships. Small Islands, much like hawaii where I lived, are very tight nit communities. With thousands of caves, and wells, and basement tunnels, that Gold is almost certainly still on the Island. Most of it anyways. It is almost a bit naive to say that you believe the ship sank full of gold. Not even children believe that.

  21. @kiwionarope on December 23, 2023 at 8:30 am

Yes, its worth going to the wreck. The treasure, go get it, sell it to fund a museum about the local maritime history along with supporting the local community. Bring up the sailors if you can, create a cemetary for them. Thats far better then doing….nothing.

but prtugal and england were allies ?

  23. @wontnotawill1356 on December 23, 2023 at 8:33 am

The fact that its underwater and thus inaccessable and subject to sediment buildup preventing any chance of being found by future civilizations makes a huge diffrence. In a desert artifacts can be found for thousands of years, and some will be well preserved. In this case isnt gross capitalisim atleast preserving the items even in the hands of private collectors? They should just have strict laws about doucumenting findings, but not taxing them as incentive to stay in legal channels

  24. @sacoto98 on December 23, 2023 at 8:35 am

Treasure Hunters, Bankers, Politicians, Lobbyists, NGO think tanks and of course pirates are all essentially the same people with the same motive. Pirates were at least a bit honest about who they were.

  46. @Rastafarai805 on December 23, 2023 at 9:04 am

When, or if, the ship exploded, the cargo would spread underwater. Light materials will drift as the sink in string currents. It is likely that the ship is spread over an area of several square miles. It would be literally impossible to find a single piece of the cargo. Aside from being covered over in mud, much of could have broken apart and scattered over an incredible area. But hey, at least we have a good idea where it sank. I doubt the integrity of the story.

On the other hand, It is much more likely that the crew turned the Entire Ship over in the port. Later, they then scuttled the ship in open water to avoid salvage claim by the crown. Piracy is largely a misunderstood practice. As little as 95% of actual piracy happened in the port, with whole ships being stolen, sailed away with half the crew defecting. As for the culprits, the answer may surprise you. That octagonal lighthouse was obviously a Minaret when it was constructed, and that is a huge clue.
