Probably the greatest and most realistic police show ever. Jack Lord was tailor made for the role of Steve McGarett. The show is still watched all over the USA and the world fifty years after it debuted. Btw, the Original was much better than the recent reboot.

Richard Boone sailed from Marina Del Rey, California to Hawaii. Boone had never been to Hawaii before and it was at the edge where the Old Hawaii, with it’s old laid back non tourist explotation and friendly ways non gone made a big hit with Boone. He was so impressed with Hawaii that until then was virtually overlooked that he called Leonard and told him your nuts if you don’t come over here and see it for yourself. Immediately Leonard offered first choice for anything they did there. Unfortunately Boone was burned out from episodic television. If you ever sat and watched what an actor goes through on a TV series you’d understand. I wonder how much an Actors life is cut short. Amanda Blake of Gunsmoke fame, decided to leave the series after 6 years on radio, and 12 years on TV. If you have the chance to listen to what see described everyday you’d run screaming away from an offer to be part of a successful TV series. And you wonder why Actors get involved in alcohol and drug abuse. You say your lines then sit in your trailer for hours maybe days for the next page of of dialog. Yuck

I still love the old five o better for the fact that when chasing a car, they shoot the tire mcgarret dont throw himself on moving cars, second i love that they dressed properly the way law enforcer suppose to dress, Steve and Dano dont fight all day like husband and wife, let personal problems interrupt with their job.

The new five o, i expect it to be better because they have great actors, new technologies and they always invites those old actors that many people forgot to the show, please mcgarret shoot the tires dont act like dare devil thats not what the show is all about. Its about charisma, style, smartness, well dressing, forget about Jsck lord sometimes crazy long sleeves flowery ugly shirts. Most important police partners dont behave like married couples, thats when i stop watching. Bad directing

The best tv show ever I have watched over and over have the boxed set as weel as all episodes on Amazon, I run three groups dedicated to five 0 and Jack Lord, who is my all time hero. I have one of his lithographs and am friend with a lad who knew him personally. I have to say tho that you are incorrect about the banned episode, It is on you tube and I downloaded it. Altho it is a very poor copy and I found the acting very bad from the guest performers.

  16. jon beams on January 5, 2023 at 5:03 am

The last show- wo fat was put into jail, and he produced a file to get out of jail. Mcgarrett, never would have locked him up, without a thorough search.
    2) every time jack Lord, snapped his fingers, he was producing that section of the show.

My 50th birthday was my absolute best!!! Had the theme music going on a constant loop in my head that whole day! I couldn’t stop moving at work, and several co workers kept telling me to slow down. No,no Danno I said, and kept on going.
My all day energy level was through the roof! Even when I got home from working a 10 hour shift, I wasn’t tired, and took me over an hour to get to sleep. 😎👍

I found the banned episode online and watched it a few years ago. It was so bizarre and seemed like an entirely different TV series than the Hawaii Five-O we’re all used to. Its out there if you want to watch it. The quality wasn’t the best-I could clearly see/hear everything. And I didn’t have to pay to watch.

  23. stumpedII on January 5, 2023 at 5:09 am

i hate censorship. banned ep? i’ve seen it .. same bad quality shown here. floating around on internet. someone made an early vcr recording i think.

  26. CJC on January 5, 2023 at 5:11 am

The new version was absolutely ~ awful. A total stinker. You know when a show is great when it becomes part of the culture- "oh you’re 5-0; book ’em Danno- murder 1; be there…aloha….and then those rolling waves. Absolutely great show. And McGarrett-Chin-Kono-Danno-Duke-Ben and Che Fong…all excellent. Nothing comes close to it- today’s television.

Al Michaels, the football announcer on Monday Night Football, had a small part in one episode. I believe he was a baseball announcer in Hawaii at the time. Also, Casey Casum was in one episode, which was pretty good.

Tim, "Hawaii Five-O" was created by Leonard Freeman. He created it, partly, to expose American audiences to the fact that Hawaii, advertised as an island paradise, had it’s share of organized crime, was a favorite business location for many Asian international crime organizations, and was the location for American espionage programs designed to thwart the espionage programs from then-hostile People’s Republic of China and still-hostile North Korea. In it’s early seasons, "Hawaii Five-O" commented unfavorably on U.S. foreign policy and the Vietnam War.

Should of stated WHY Five-O ended. Was it due to ratings? Main characters leaving?

  32. Albert Owen on January 5, 2023 at 5:20 am

Another fun fact: Jack Lord was the original Felix Leiter in the first James Bond movie "Dr. No" – he did that role superbly!

  35. Mac Wess on January 5, 2023 at 5:25 am

Does anyone remember Jack Lord as Stoney Burke?

  36. Mr. LA Tours on January 5, 2023 at 5:27 am

Tim, once again, you mispronounced the name of a world-famous landmark. One of the most famous beaches in the world is "Waikiki Beach", not "Waiki Beach", as you pronounced it.

  37. Brian Lynch on January 5, 2023 at 5:27 am

Dude. Lord used to sell his paintings in the Ala Moana Centre in Honoluu. He smoked a lot of bread for his landscapes, mainly of the white beaches and the waves rolling in under Diamond Head..
Jack had an apartment just under the dead volcano where the rich dudes lived.
He burnt a lot of grass and folded his money in property investments.
Sadly he became a recluse and went nuts with senility and would wander around Waikiki and the Canal back of town..The cops would look out for him when he went missing, and bring him home.

  38. Ax18 on January 5, 2023 at 5:27 am

    Loved it, growing up.

  39. Jorge Mario Rodas on January 5, 2023 at 5:27 am

Very interesting. Hawaii is warm all the time, and I wonder how such actors withstood wearing suits. Jack Lord was a very good actor, and one that made the stories believable, through really all actors were good.

  40. Craig Cricket on January 5, 2023 at 5:28 am

It didn’t mention how Jack lord, patterned his character, after Stacy Keach and Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer

  41. pepino735 on January 5, 2023 at 5:29 am

    what about Kono?

  42. montanaboy3777 on January 5, 2023 at 5:30 am

Love the trip down memory lane….thanks. While you mentioned the other version of Hawaii 5-0 song with lyrics from Don Ho, (A much slower pace romantic style of song), you didn’t mention another version of it with also yet different lyrics. The song "You can count on me" sung by Sammy Davis Jr. was done well and it is played at the same tempo as the original theme as well as lyrics that seem to match the whole theme of the show as well! I love all these ol’ shows…was lucky back then to see these shows as well as others. Nothing but trash in this generation..they loose out knowing the over all coolness of these shows!! (Book em’ Danno"!!

Anybody know who the woman is by the pool? She did a palm reading for Steve. Or, which episode this is in 1968? Thank you

Nice video. You sort of breezed past an awful nugget you dropped when mentioning the death of Kam Fong’s wife and kids. I was like, “wait…what?”

Per Wikipedia, two military planes crashed above his house, landed on his hose, and killed his wife and two kids! Good Lord.

  45. Amy Clark on January 5, 2023 at 5:36 am

Jack lord looks exactly like my uncle chuck my uncle chuck was a policeman and a good man

  46. Dorothy Green on January 5, 2023 at 5:37 am

Wow ! That is really interesting ! I will always love the original " Hawaii Five O " television series . Jack Lord will continue to be the best actor ever to play the role of Steve Mc Garrett bar none !
