The Beale Ciphers and Buried Treasure in Virginia | Weird Renown Episode #8
On this episode of Weird Renown we will be discussing a legend in Virginia involving a man named Thomas J. Beale who was part of a group of thirty men who discovered a mine full of treasure while hunting buffalo in New Mexico in the 1800’s. Thomas was said to have transported the treasure back to Virginia, making several trips. Becoming worried that he would be apprehended on the road, Thomas devised three coded messages that when read together would reveal the location of a treasure that is said to be valued at nearly 60 million dollars. To this day, a discovery of this treasure has not been recorded, despite many attempts.

I would horde the shiniest pieces like a dragon, donate any historical pieces to the museum, and then after all that share the rest amongst the people in my life. lol Totally one of those well thought out answers I’ve had forever because I’ve always been interested in buried treasures. How cool is it that we still have treasure hunts like this over generations. I suppose that’s why geocaching is so much fun.
Nice episode! I’m going on a hunt for other interesting facts and currently ongoing treasure hunts now. 🙂
