My ex brother in-law and his uncle had a hunting cabin on Leland rd, off of Dents run, he would take the whole family there for a week. About 22 yrs ago one night around the camp fire he told us a story about the gold buried some where in the area.

Back in 1984, I located more than a ton of The Peoples’ Gold–in the form of newley minted gold coins. It continues to repose exactly where I found it! I’m saving it for a dark and cloudy day!!!
Just up the road from where you are is an Indian mill. Across the creek and way on top of the hill is a large cave that was used by robber day Lewis. I can get you to it and even hike up to the spot to explore. On the upper part of the hill is a remnant of a built up stone roadway. Supposedly built by the British to move artillery higher than camping troops to cover any approach from the valley…they are interspersed on the way down those valleys. Same exact area..lots of things to find.

Yes, I’ve always enjoyed stories about lost treasure’s, gold and ghostly hauntings, and no one tells them better than you TWW! I really enjoyed this one, and all of those walks in the woods brings me back to the days of my youth, COOL! But getting to the story, if I was in charge of sending that much gold, I would have sent at least 100 soldiers and on full alert. I also got to tell ya! and to change the subject, THAT! is a beautiful creek, you can just take in a deep breath of the sent and the sound of the running water. Are you familiar with the song, Out In The Country, by Three Dog Night, written by Paul Williams. GOT TO FIND A PLACE-OUT FROM THE HUMAN RACE-OUT IN THE COUNTRY….is where I did my growing up. You wanna know what doesn’t make sense? Committing murder just to steal some gold and bury it in the woods. If they stole it to take it and keep it that would add up but not stealing it to bury it and leave it buried forever.
Tests proved there was gold. FBI was called. Finders keepers were kept away by the FBI from the site their phones were taken. Neighbors told about all night lights lite up the ridge where the gold was found.
Nuf said… when you mentioned "finders keepers". They are the biggest scam fake treasure hounds on the planet. And the team ALWAYS say the FBI gets involved, although no FBI or so called heavy equipment or evidence of excavating exists.

Very good job telling the true story of what happened with Dennis and Kem Parada at Dents Run. But, you were a little to far upstream and downhill from the location of where the gold was found and dug up. Any and all treasure lost than found should be told if people died. That way the men and or women could rest in Peace when the story is told.
I spent a LOT of time researching the legend (thinking if nothing else a book might be made of it) to include the national and state archives, and other primary historical sources. Of course, I also made several trips to Dents Run during that period. There are a lot of holes in the legend (and gaps) that are difficult or impossible to fille or close – a major one being the loss of period Pinkerton files during the Chicago fire. One thing that has always stuck out among the threads was finding records of the "guide" in a county SE of Dents and in line with the Pinkerton tale of "chunks" of gold bar being later discovered under a tree. That little detail breathed life into the legend for me.
