Several videos back I mentioned the ill-fated 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet, but I want to explore this story in a little more depth. If you’ve ever seen the series Black Sails you’ll probably remember the Urca de Lima, the treasure ship Flint and his crew were chasing in the first season. The Urca de Lima was a real ship and it did indeed wreck off the coast of Florida after sailing into a powerful hurricane. But the Urca wasn’t alone, it was part of a fleet comprised of 12 ships sailing from Havana to Spain.

Interesting!
Great work sir. I’d love to see something about Sinan Reis, Jack Ward, and other Barbary Corsairs
do u think the pirates of the carribean films describe this period good? im kinda intrested in pirates because of those films, soo well made and everything. u could one day make a video about how realistic or accurate the films are compared to IRL
Grew up on the Treasure Coast of Florida, just south of Vero. My father use to tell us about these shipwrecks when we would visit the beach. My brothers and I would "look for" the treasure, of course never finding anything. Fun memories.
I really appreciate your historical information, and the story telling… First rate!
One of the best pirates channel on YouTube.
There is a great museum down at Sebastian Inlet that has a lot of the items recovered from the 1715 Fleet wreck. I enjoyed touring the museum and thinking what a huge financial disaster this wreck was for Spain at the time! There is still one ship missing that is part of the 1715 wrecks that hasn’t been found yet. It believed that ship is in deeper water than the ones that have been found. I live in St Augustine so a couple of the museums here have the 1715 wreck storytelling on the tour. Enjoyed the video mate!
Just found your channel, love the content man keep it up!
Metric please
Thanks for making this, what are your sources? I live in Vero, family been here for generations, and I’ve always had great interest in this subject. Great presentation.
A friend’s father was one of the NASA guys who succeeded in bringing up the majority of this treasure just north of Vero Beach FL. I used to go surfing right where one of the ships wrecked, and several of the guys found pieces of eight on the beach after thunderstorms. It’s a fascinating story!
and yes, i went to stockholm this summer and was lucky enought to go toThe vasa museum in Stockholm. u have probably heard of it. a real ship from the 1600s and best preserved after so many years.
Ow wow, this actually happens early on in Assassins Creed black Flag, in 1715.
Remember this in assassins creed black flag
I have not searched your videos deeply yet, but have you done anything concerning those along the west coast of Florida? Typically Gasparilla.
Nothing worse than a lee shore to a sailor in bad weather.
Great content just found your channel
Great videos. short and concise.
Pirate papa hath blessed us again this morning with another great video
Longer videos please.
New subscriber. Really enjoy the content, a fascinating subject
Insane story!!!
Really curious as to how boats in a fleet sailing together communicate to one another id assume they wouldn’t pull the boats closer for boarding do to possibility of crashing into one another but maybe you’ll cover that in your next video lol love the content keep it up
Man this is an awesome channel! I love to learn more about pirates and the different events that happened with them. I hope that you will have enough content to keep going for a long while!
Tysm for your videos! I first started watching cause i wanted to write about pirates, but then i keep watching the videos without writing the information XD
It was just so interesting and ill watch it late at night and im not really planning to stop that soon lol
Again tysm
I love your channel. It is very informative and you speak in a clear voice that is easy to listen to. I have learned a lot today and for that I thank you. At the end of your video you mention any suggestions. Maybe this is interesting. Years ago I read that an old Dutch Law, and still active today, stated that you could attack any ship carrying a pirate flag Without Warning! Just now I’ve spent 30 minutes looking for that again, but I can not find a reference to this anymore. But this let me to my suggestion. Are there many laws specifically tailored for/against Pirates? And are some of them, in any country of course, still valid today?

You should do a video on François l’Olonnais
Looking forward to this one!
Out of 12 ships, one made it back home!?! Can’t wait for the truth 🙌🏼
Great story about the Spanish treasure fleet! I’m a big fan of the pirate series "Black Sails. " Despite its many ahistorical elements, it has a wonderful cast, spectacular sailing and battle scenes, a great plot including "backstories" for fictional Treasure Island characters like Captain Flint, Long John Silver, Israel Hands, and Billy Bones, and superb locations/production values. Plus a long list of historical pirate figures such as Edward Teach, Charles Vane, Anne Bonny, Jack Rackham, Benjamin Hornigold, and Governor of the Bahamas, Woodes Rogers.
ah nothing better than a cold beer after a hard day of work and a new episode of The Pirates Port! Love your channel mate!
I’m autistic, and my special interest is tallships. Your content is amazing. Every time I watch, I’m able to learn something new, and it plays into my special interest! Thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos, keep it up!
I first heard about the Spanish Treasure Fleet in the Netflix documentary series The Lost Pirate Kingdom. In this video you mention Woodes Rogers’ pardon, which was portrayed in said documentary as causing a lot of in-fighting and disruption among the Flying Gang of Nassau. -Any chance you could dive deeper into the internal politics of pirates facing pardon vs punishment?
Thank you all for helping me to reach 10k subscribers! I will be doing a livestream soon to commemorate this milestone. If you have any questions post below and I’ll do my best to answer during the stream. 🏴☠
