Hidden in a middle school in Shawnee, Kansas, there’s a treasure chest packed so full of historical relics that one might mistake it for an outpost of the Smithsonian. With more than 50,000 artifacts, Kansas teacher, Keil Hileman, has turned his classroom into a time-machine, where each object carries a distinct and sometimes graphic story. We’re an extracurricular choir and she gives up countless hours of her week with no pay to run the group and get us to the skill level we need to be at. She is a principal in Borrego Springs, CA and drives two hours back and forth each week to have rehearsal with us. Because of her dedication, we have performed on many world stages including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in NY, the Vatican, the Sydney Opera House, and have toured over 9 European countries. Ms. Girvin is amazing and she should definitely be in your spotlight!

This is definitely how classes should be done for people who learns hands on. And it’s definitely an experience and class worth remembering and won’t be forgotten. Einstein originally taught this way. In his first few classes he wasn’t good at lecturing so he quickly adapted and started taking his class on walks in the city where he explain his theories and physics. He used this to get past his autism until he could give lectures in a room. If you can’t bring the class on a field trip, bring the field trip to the class. Of course no a days we have videos and smart boards so it may just be a matter of finding a good source, generally speaking.
