Treasure Hunters: Searching for Cambodia’s Stolen Antiquities | Foreign Correspondent

It’s been called the biggest art theft in history – thousands of statues stolen from temples across Cambodia and sold to private collectors and international museums, including here in Australia.

Now a team of art sleuths, on behalf of the Cambodian Government, are on a mission to bring home the country’s cultural heritage.

In this episode of Foreign Correspondent, the inside story of how Cambodia’s stolen antiquities are being tracked and returned in a global treasure hunt.

South-East Asia correspondent Mazoe Ford travels with the restitution team as they journey across the country and over borders to identify, trace and reclaim Cambodia’s missing treasures.

    im cambodian. did you know theres over 1000 spirit inside Angkor Wat? Whenever a bad person enter it will make them feel sick and scared to keep going inside and the spiriti is so strong that when thailand tried to build their own version of Angkor Wat it fall apart and something blew up killing a few people. the spirit are from the people that builded the temple and fight for their empire. Such a underrated video fr.

    I live in North Carolina and I am beyond certain that many pieces of Thai and Cambodian Khmer antiquities that are in the permanent collection of the Ackland Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have dubious provenances and were in all likelihood illegally looted.

    The same can be said of their equally vast holdings of ancient Bhuddist antiquities from Gandhara in Pakistan.

    It was built as a hindu temple , later during the rise of Buddhism it was converted into Buddhist temple ,hence the defaced idols of previous hindu gods
