Right now I’m wallowing in all those dives in the Caribbean I did in the 70s & 80s. My heart is breaking.

Beautiful site. As much as I would like to dive it, it is probably best kept off limits. Too many divers on a site tend to stress a reef. Too many bad divers stress it even more quickly. And it would only be a matter of time until it became Cozumel: too easy to travel, stay, and dive there. I have seen too many bad divers in places that are too easy too access.

I’m afraid this show has given away too much info on its location and within 3 yrs a few obsessed fishermen will come across the reef and within 10yrs it will be on it’s way of being destroyed .

  4. Nelson Hernandez on June 22, 2023 at 7:45 am

I know that reefs should be left untouched and so I feel a little guilty for keeping a saltwater aquarium.

3 popular catch phrases that are repeated so often that they became mundane and I had to stop watching are: Promentories, Aggregations, and Global warming. 🤭(yawn)

NO NO NO NNNOOO!!!! THIS HERE IS EXACTLY the problem!!. someone stumbled upon something amazing, then had to foolishly tell others about it, BUT!!! in their infinite wisdom, also trying to get people NOT to tell others about it which is absolutely impossible. THEN!! the Brainiac idiot scientists want to put on their thinking caps and so-called research it and dissect it trying to figure out why it is what it is and how it works, and in all their poking tagging and prodding, become the very element that starts the process of destroying it. And oh yes.. lets also give this information of this secret location to a nationally broadcast nature show to make certain everyone becomes aware of this place (so much of keeping it at secret!!) then you have everyone trying to find the pace and they eventually will, with their… oh its so beautiful we had to come and brought our grandchildren.. And like time and time again, the obvious happens.. the once Eden is poked and prodded, touched and mangled, fished and poached, polluted and contaminated.. and in no time its dying at an alarming rate, all because once again.. When man in his infinite wisdom gets himself involved with something related to nature, it always ends up bad. If you want to preserve something then walk away don’t return and forget about what you’ve seen and don’t tell anyone!! That’s how you preserve something, keeping people oblivious to its existence, as apparently and obviously, it was doing just fine long before you came along. And the minute you say no to this, explicitly reveals your intension, not to let it be, but instead to invade its presence. hence the problem.

Can someone please tell me what is a ‘gyre’?

  21. David Prange on June 22, 2023 at 8:11 am

Great news. It’s what the entire Caribbean looked like 20-30 years ago when I started diving the mesoAmerican reef.. Good luck with enforcement.

  22. L.McScott on June 22, 2023 at 8:11 am

Being avid water people- we really hope this place does NOT get exploited by those humans who just want to destroy even the last fish or the last rhinoceros or the last elephant all for profit. This is the most beautiful place I have ever seen The array of plant and fish life is just unbelievable. And the geology is just amazing.also. Nature at its best- when left alone. And bless its protectors.🙏🏼

I used to go fishing in this area. Between Guatemala, Belize and Honduras. It is around 21 miles from Honduras and 40miles from Guatemala.

    Send the coordinates!

What happen to being disguised as a fish and doing research

  29. Somobikeswest on June 22, 2023 at 8:18 am

A podcast titled "Outlaw Ocean" completely changed my understanding of human activity on the ocean. It is barely regulated. Many fish are caught illegally and readily consumed on the open market.

  30. Ryan Gibson on June 22, 2023 at 8:19 am

Once the reef was discovered, it’s fate was sealed. Human’s good intentions lead to nothing but more dead earth.

  31. Mellissa Dalby on June 22, 2023 at 8:21 am

I sure hope they don’t get destroyed now that so many people know about them.

  32. S Starklite on June 22, 2023 at 8:23 am

The only solution is to give every person another income, like a Universal Basic Income obviously! Or just redistribute money equally worldwide because it never should have been distributed unequally in the first place! Or just eliminate money because most money today is just numbers in computers! In other words destroy capitalism, buy and sell something or starve, work for a wage or starve.

You can’t tell farmers to stop growing crops for a few years, and you can’t tell lumberjacks to stop cutting down trees for a few years, and you can’t tell lawyers to stop working for a few years, because they will starve without an income at all! We need to give a UBI worldwide, or I prefer to eliminate money, it’s faster. And it will end world poverty.

We need to stop tourism because it’s unsustainable, but then millions of people will lose their only income when there are no tourists to buy souvenirs of some kind, so the only solution is to destroy capitalism, work for a wage or starve, buy and sell something or starve. There should be equal wealth or a very large UBI.
